'X Factor' Results: Who Went Home?

All right, America, are you ready to find out which three acts made it through to the "X Factor" season finale and which artist had their dreams crushed?

Going into Thursday's (December 13) results show, we predicted that Fifth Harmony would be packing their bags, in large part due to their underdog status, but as they sang on Wednesday night: "Anything Can Happen."

After an excruciating hour of waiting to hear the name of the final act to be eliminated ahead of the season finale, Emblem3 was sent home. "I'm just so honored to have gone through this experience. We're so grateful," Emblem 3's Wes Stromberg said, adding a special shout-out to their fans. "I know you voted your butts off. We love you, and we're going to continue to make music."

Their mentor Simon Cowell wasn't as positive about the loss. "This is the way it goes on a competition. I thought they had a fantastic night last night," he said. "I'm extremely disappointed. But you're going to have a huge career," he said to his group.

This means that your season-two "X Factor" finalists are Fifth Harmony, Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Sonenclar, who will be battling it out for the crown and the $5 million record-deal riches.

Mentor Cowell couldn't hide his own shock when it was announced that Fifth Harmony were safe and Emblem3 and Sonenclar ended up in the bottom two. "I believe in miracles, and these girls, I thought they were sensational last night," he said. "I could not be happier."

"I'm very shocked," L.A. Reid said when asked for his thoughts.

L.A. Reid won't return to "The X Factor" next season.

"I was a little disappointed," added Britney Spears. "I thought it was going to be the other way around with the groups."

On the lighter side of things, the final four performed a unique arrangement of Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home," which offered each of the remaining contestants an opportunity to showcase their signature singing styles. Guest performers included up-and-coming pop star Bridgit Mendler from Disney Channel's "Good Luck Charlie," who performed her upbeat single "Ready or Not," followed by recent MTV "Big & Best of 2012" performer Bruno Mars, who brought the house down with a lively version of his #1 single "Knocked Out of Heaven."

L.A. Reid Will Not Return For Season Three Of 'X Factor'

Looks like third time isn't the charm for L.A. Reid, who announced Thursday afternoon (December 13) that he will not return to the judging panel for the third season of "The X Factor."

In a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the bigwig record executive shared his "utmost respect" for show creator Simon Cowell, saying, "He is the very best, and I have had the opportunity to learn so much from him. Working with him on 'X Factor' has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Reid's departure from the Fox singing competition leaves the industry heavyweight with time to get back to his work as Epic Records chairman, and it sounds like he's content with that. In an interview with "Access Hollywood," Reid explained that his day job was the main reason for leaving the show.

"I have a huge responsibility to a roster of artists, and it's kind of time for me to stop doing the me show and get back to doing the them show," he said. Asked who he would like to see take his seat next year, Reid suggested Jon Bon Jovi.

Credited for the success of superstars like Justin Bieber, Pink and Avril Lavigne, Reid was a no-brainer decision when Cowell announced him as the first judge signed for season one of the show. From the looks of season two, it seems as if Reid will have another artist to add to his résumé, with country mentee Tate Stevens one of the show's front-runners.

It's the latest shakeup for Cowell's Stateside singing competition, which has seen judge firings, host replacements and not-so-stellar ratings since its transition across the pond. And even though Britney Spears told reporters she's down for another year of "The X Factor," there has been no official word as to whether she or Demi Lovato will reprise their roles as judges during the 2013 season.

Kristen Stewart's 'Monotone' Voice Gets Melodic 'On The Road' Makeover

Kristen Stewart has done accents before. You need to look no further than the blockbuster big-screen adaptation of "Snow White and the Huntsman" for a prime example. But creating Marylou for the big screen version of Jack Kerouac's was a completely different kind of experience. It wasn't really just about the way she sounds when she speaks, but also about what's embodied in every word she says.

So, when Stewart and the rest of the crew sat down to study up on the film, they were treated to audio recording of Lu Anne Henderson, the woman that Kerouac had based his "On the Road" character on. From there, she began to come to life.

"It's funny. For one thing, it's in 1948, and people spoke with a very different canter, literally it is like an accent. And [we] had listened to these tapes of hers and I think it took five minutes for everyone to sort of look around the table and just start laughing cause no one really knew how to handle how infectious it was," she told MTV News on Thursday (December 13) at a junket for the December 21 release.

And, Stewart really had to adopt the speech pattern of Marylou, who she explains sounds nothing like her. She added, "It was like suddenly everyone just completely fell in love with her, the way her voice sort of ... it's really melodic. It goes up and down and is everywhere incredibly expressive, whereas I do speak in a very monotone sort of way. Even though she grew up in L.A. and then moved to Denver, she just sounded like she was from a different world."

Moviegoers will be transported to another world when they go to the Walter Salles-directed flick, which co-stars Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund as the story's main fellas, Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, respectively. The film takes place in the late 40's as those dudes, along with Marylou and a colorful cast of characters, embark on a journey in a time before words like "LOL" and "NSFW" had made it into the English-speaking vernacular.

"The one thing that struck me was they just used more words to describe what they spoke about, but I didn't find myself saying words like 'swell'," she said, but did note she took something away from the flick. "And there is one thing that she said constantly that I tried to adopt actually and by the end of it did, I could naturally kind of own it. But she was constantly going 'in any case' 'cause she was constantly in one direction and another, just constantly talking about a million different things. After everything she said it was 'in any case.' It was really cute."

Yeah, Taylor Swift Wore A Wig To Be A 'Different Girl' In 'Trouble'

Leave it to Taylor Swift to do something as perfectly planned out as releasing her latest music video, "I Knew You Were Trouble," on her birthday. What makes it even sweeter is the fact that it happens to be the release of her 23rd music video dropping on her 23rd birthday.

Except she kind of didn't realize it all worked out like that until now.

"It's like a golden video birthday. I realized that like five minutes ago when someone told me and now I'm all excited about it," she told MTV News during the latest episode of "MTV First." "I can't believe it lined up like that."

Taylor Gets A Golden Globe Nod For Her Birthday! And, among all her videos she's dropped so far over the course of her career, this latest video is her favorite. And, her explanation for she loves it so much, also acts as a sort of Cliffs Notes as to what goes down in the Anthony Mandler-directed clip.

"I think that this video is my favorite right now just because I've never had a video that was so action-packed, where it's like 'Oh my god! They're fighting, now they're in a hotel room and now he's like getting a tattoo, and now like there's a rave, and then there's a concert and he's kissing another girl and there's all this stuff going on. It's insane, like he's driving. How's he standing up and driving?' It's just like fast-moving, just like the song," she said, also showing love to her bad boy co-star Reeve Carney. "And I think the actor who played the guy in the video, Reeve Carney, is like one of the most amazing, talented people I've gotten to be around."

Taylor Swift's Top 5 Moments of 2012!

While the slightly NSFW plot may shock some Swifties, others may find her cropped, pink-tipped hair equally edgy. "I was wearing a wig, yeah. It was just kind of like, I felt like I was really stepping into a character," she said. "Like I actually got to feel like I was this different girl, who was pulled into this different storyline, and with the pink hair and everything, I felt like it really kind of showed how she changed."

One Direction Are MTV's Best Artists Of 2012!

If you need evidence of One Direction's massive 2012, look no further than the previously empty space on Seventh Avenue vacated by bellied-up booksellers Borders. Nestled into the side of New York's largest concert venue, Madison Square Garden, and sitting above Penn Station's massive transit hub, the retail space was a real-estate goldmine and could have easily gone with another Starbucks, McDonald's or place to sell "I Love NY" T-shirts.

Instead, realtors opted for the hottest commodity possible: 1D.

New York City felt the effects of the boy band's worldwide phenomenon with the addition of a new store, solely dedicated to Harry, Liam, Louis, Zayn and Niall. Packed with band bling, cozy onesies, posters, cardboard cutouts and T-shirts with customizable "Future Mrs. Payne" sayings, the pop-up store took 1D fandom and gave it a place to live — in the homes of each and every Directioner (1D World has locations in Canada and Australia too!).

But if real-estate examples aren't really your thing, know this: One Direction are MTV's Best Artists of 2012 — and there are plenty of reasons.

In March, Up All Night became the first debut LP from a British group to premiere at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album had been released in the U.K. first, but after fans started catching on Stateside, we saw a full-on British invasion. Eight months after Up All Night came to the U.S., fans were invited to Take Me Home — and they did, taking home 540,000 copies of the sophomore album, which (guess what?) also debuted at #1.

By the time the guys hit up the Kids' Choice Awards later in March, America had gotten the One Direction infection — including Sasha and Malia Obama — and the band was ready to make the rounds at a year full of award shows. MTV's 2012 Video Music Awards in August gave them three Moonmen, earning a win in each category they were up for. At the American Music Awards in November, the boys got three nominations as well. And three was the charm, when they took away three prizes at the Teen Choice Awards.

Of course, it's not just record sales and awards that matter: The real force behind One Direction is the Directioners. You know, the ones who camped out all weekend in the cold to watch their performance on the ? (By the way, that performance broke a "Today" show record, drawing in 15,000 people to Rockefeller Plaza.) They were the ones who had their hearts broken when Zayn Malik quit Twitter, insisting and succeeding in getting him to rejoin in a day's time. And they were the ones who screamed, cried and sang along on One Direction's tour.

In a year where the five teenagers topped the charts, invaded "Saturday Night Live," met the queen and helped close out the Olympics, One Direction played the biggest concert of their life at Madison Square Garden. It was their first arena-level show, and tickets sold out in 10 minutes. And a week later, they played there again, the crowd of Directioners never waning as they waited for the band under 15-feet tall banners of Niall, Harry and company — all right next door to that little pop-up shop in New York City.

Congrats on an awesome year, One Direction!

12-12-12 Concert Raises $30 Million For Sandy Relief

Nothing makes a star-studded charity concert more worthwhile than when people actually tune in to watch the electrifying performances — and then open up their wallets to donate money to the cause.

That was the case with Wednesday night's five-hour 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, which raised money to support those individuals and neighborhoods impacted by the October hurricane, particularly in New York and New Jersey. According to the organizers, the Robin Hood Foundation, more than $30 million was raised from ticket revenue, sponsorships and corporate donations.

With a lineup that included Kanye West, Bruce Springsteen and Beatle Paul McCartney, who lit up the stage in a surprise duet with the surviving members of Nirvana, even those not lucky enough to snag tickets could to the show at Madison Square Garden, got front-row seats to the televised event.

And five hours of programming meant fans were treated to both scheduled sets and surprises. West, Springsteen and McCartney shared the bill with Alicia Keys, the Who, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, and a team-up of Coldplay's Chris Martin with R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Roger Waters and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. A slew of celebrity guest hosts were also on hand to introduce segments on affected neighborhoods: Kristen Stewart, Adam Sandler (who sang a joke-filled, Sandy-themed remake of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"), Diddy, Chris Rock, Katie Holmes, Jon Stewart, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Blake Lively, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steve Buscemi and Chelsea Clinton.

A final total for donations made by phone and over the Internet is still to come, but a spokesperson said they hope to have a firm tally by next Monday. (Additional funds were also raised through merchandise sales, auctions of autographed items, CD and DVD sales and iTunes downloads.)

To donate to the victims of Sandy, you can still call 1-855-465-4357 or visit 121212concert.org.

'Star Trek Into Darkness': Will A Hero Die?

As much as fans have been are clamoring for any early insight into we have to hand it to director (and world-class secret-keeper) J.J. Abrams for holding strong to his practice of safeguarding his film plots — and making sure his actors do too.

Proof? No matter how many times we asked, none would give up the true identity of the movie's villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. With no strong clues yet about who the sequel's bad guy will be, we turned our attention to some of our favorite "Star Trek" characters. Should we be worried about their fates? Surely Abrams wouldn't actually kill off a fan favorite. Or would he?

MTV News recently caught up with stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, and we asked them point-blank if we need to prepare ourselves for a major onscreen loss.

"There's reason to worry, let's say that much," Quinto teased. "The enemy we face in this movie, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is entirely different than the enemies we've seen this crew face in the past. There's insidiousness and ruthlessness and a fierce intelligence to his character that almost infiltrates and undermines the connectivity of the crew to the degree that the stakes are much higher. He added, "It's much more urgent and there's a lot more at risk, so who knows?"

What we do know so far about "Into Darkness" isn't much, however, fans will soon get a nice tease of some of the film's action with the nine-minute sneak peek of footage set to run before "The Hobbit" at IMAX theaters. But all signs point to the fact that the film might be darker and more intense than the first, especially since Cumberbatch's villain is a devious "terrorist" and all.
