| Hurricane Sandy overwhelmed the coastal city of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, with National Guard video footage showing rows of homes submerged in water, 50 feet of Funtown Pier collapsing and the boardwalk being badly damaged. As Sandy continued to batter the Eastern Seaboard on Tuesday (October 30), castmembers from MTV's weighed in on the devastation that arrived on the doorstep of the town where the show spent four seasons filming on location. "Sandy destroyed Seaside — our second home," Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi said in a statement to MTV News. "It's devastating to see our boardwalk and favorite spots ruined. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the storm." "My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy, especially our friends and family in Seaside Heights," Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio added. "A huge thank you to all the men and women who have been working around the clock to protect and help everyone, true heroes!" "This is a devastating time for the East Coast and my prayers are with everyone," added Jenni "JWoww" Farley. "I am thinking about my second family at the Jersey Shore and know that we can rebuild and come back stronger." Much of the boardwalk was either damaged or completely destroyed, according to several reports. According to NJ.com, a piece of the Star Jet roller coaster was hanging into the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday. Flooding was rampant all the way through several houses and Route 37. Businesses were damaged as well. The "Jersey Shore" cast also took to Twitter to express their thoughts and sympathies for the area. "Seaside Heights suffered bad from the hurricane and my prayers go out to everyone affected!" Snooki tweeted,. "We are all fine here," she added. "Seeing seaside and what has happened in my hometown is beyond devastating," wrote Samantha "Sammi Sweetheart" Giancola. "I have no words." Vinny Guadagnino recognized the work of law enforcement with the hashtag #HERO. "Just saw our Police Chief Boyd of Seaside on the news risking his life to save people," he tweeted. "This is crazy living there for 4 summers & seeing in such disaster!" wrote Ronnie Magro. |
