B.o.B Didn't Have His Dad's Support Before He 'Made It'

On the road to becoming a best-selling rapper, there are bound to be a few bumps — not to mention a few detractors — but what if your own family doesn't support you?

Then you keep on pushing, just like B.o.B did.

On the latest episode of MTV's which premieres Saturday at noon, Bobby Ray — who landed at #1 on the charts with his major-label debut, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, in 2010 — reveals that his father was not too thrilled about his career choice.

"My dad will tell you that he wasn't too fond of me when I first started rapping," the Atlanta native explained. "My dad was a preacher. When your dad is a preacher ... the things you wanna say as an MC, they don't really go hand in hand.

"I remember I was walking through the house with a rap book, a do-rag on and some headphones or something, and my dad stopped me," he said, recalling one pivotal moment. "He was like, 'Why are you trying to be something that you're not?' "

As you can imagine, young Bobby Ray didn't react well to his dad's comment. "I was appalled," he admitted. "I was like, 'What do you mean, something I'm not?' I'm an MC, I' m a lyricist, I'm a rapper — I love this. If someone tells me I [can't] do something, I'm going in the exact opposite direction."

Although the journey was difficult without having his dad in his corner, B.o.B said that it pushed him to work even harder. "I think if I would've went through life and there would've been nobody hating on me, and there would've been nobody writing 'you're wack' in my rap book, if I didn't get booed at the talent show, I don't think I'd be here. I wouldn't have wanted it badly enough."

"This Is How I Made It" airs Saturdays at noon ET on MTV.

J. Cole Felt 'Free' While Recording _Born Sinner_

J. Cole has no doubt in his mind that the songs on Born Sinner, his upcoming sophomore album, will top those on his #1 debut Cole World: The Sideline Story. That confidence comes from the freedom he's been given to create on his own terms after getting his first release out of the way.

"I don't think it's gonna be hard to top my first album. I don't think that's gonna be tough," Cole tells MTV News confidently. "I think I got that."

What makes him so sure? "Freedom, just [having] no pressure," he said. "As soon as my first album dropped, all of this weight was off me and everything was flowing out and that lasted a long time, months and months. So just the freedom of not having to please the label, the machine, that was very inspiring."

Just like he did on his major label debut, the North Carolina rapper will oversee production on the album and he plans to keep the features under wraps for as long as he can. "I've got a few other producers, but [it's] really majority produced by me," he said, adding, "[And] a couple features — key features, that I really wanted to get. I don't even know if I'm gonna put the features on the track [I might just] let it be a surprise."

We'll go out on a limb here and guess that at least one of those features will be from Kendrick Lamar, whom Cole is also recording a joint project with &#8212 and praises quite often &#8212 but we'll have to wait and see for sure.

"It definitely sounds like growth, [just] bigger and not in a corny way, not in a trying way," Cole continued, explaining his progress. "It's weird because I have these songs that are bigger and then I have these songs that are just as underground as some of my old stuff, it's like always playing these two worlds."

Born Sinner is currently scheduled to debut on J. Cole's 28th birthday: January 28.

French Montana Challenges 'Old Man' 50 Cent After DJ Khaled Jabs

French Montana isn't going to just let 50 Cent's taunts go unanswered. On Friday (November 30) Fif made some pretty damaging accusations against the "Pop That" MC, saying that French aided the G-Unit head in his feud with DJ Khaled. And while Montana didn't address that issue directly, he sent some pretty clear shots Fif's way this afternoon.

In response, Montana issued 50 a good old fashioned sales challenge. They both have albums coming next year. "@50cent if u really about Dat life lets drop our album da same day and see who sell more u had your turn old man," he wrote.

It didn't stop there. "#Dunkeykong should send @Eminem & @adamlevine flowers for TRYINN to save his career come catch this fade monkey," he said in reference to 50's new single, "My Life."

The battle-tested 50 didn't pass up the opportunity to throw more shots at the Bad Boy recording artist. "LMAO @Frenchmontana gonna find out what we already know. Puffy gonna run like a b!tch you on ya own boy," he wrote on Twitter.

The two have been bickering since October after Montana commented on Fif's penchant for beef in a Complex.com interview, but during the past week the drama has ramped up. In a recent interview, Montana called 50 a "donkey" and then named himself as the most important artist at Interscope Records, dismissing Fif's role on Jimmy Iovine's all-star roster.

Watch: 50 Cent will toast 10 years of Get Rich or Die Tryin' with new album!

None of this sat well with 50, who Friday morning claimed that it was Montana who supplied him with the footage of DJ Khaled's mother that the G-Unit juggernaut used in his 2009 viral video dis "A Psychic Told Me." "Frenchie, they got me the tape," Fif said he appeared on Power 106's Big Boy's Neighborhood in Los Angeles again this morning. "They got me the tape of his mother's house, where his moms work at, the other cribs, the studios, stuff like that."

During the interview 50 went on to criticize French for relying on big-time collaborations, most notably "Pop That" with Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne.

Led Zeppelin will Reunite - for "Letterman" interview

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The surviving members of Led Zeppelin will make a rare appearance together on "Late Show With David Letterman" on December 3, CBS said Friday.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones will drop in on the late-night show for an interview - which isn't quite the reunion that Zep fans have been patiently waiting for, but it might have to do. With the exception of a one-off tribute concert for Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun at London's O2 Arena in 2007 - which was released as the DVD "Celebration Day" in October - Jones has largely been estranged from Page and Plant since the group's 1980 breakup following drummer John Bonham's death.

The "Late Show" appearance won't be the only time that Letterman hangs out with the rock legends - the group, along with Letterman, will be lauded at the 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., which will take place December 2 and air December 26 on CBS.

Are Chris Brown And Rihanna Dating? What You Can Learn From Their Instagrams

Though Chris Brown and Rihanna have been telling anyone who will listen that they are 100 percent, unequivocally, absolutely not dating, there's certainly been a rekindling of something going on for most of the year.

Beginning with Brown's appearance on Rih's "Birthday Cake" remix, continuing through the 2012 Video Music Awards and showing up very prominently on Rihanna's new Unapologetic album (by now, you've certainly heard "Nobody's Business," right?), their actions seem to suggest a reunion of sorts. And while their words are saying one thing, those pictures, tell another story altogether.

Both Brown and Rihanna have rather, uh, amazing Instagram accounts — since deleting his Twitter account, Breezy's been using his as the primary way of communicating with his fans — and over the past week, they've raised more than a few eyebrows with their photos. Not to mention making us all wonder what the definition of "not dating" really is.

Rihanna got things going on November 24 with a simple pic of her sitting alone aboard a jet, adding a caption that read, simply, "See u soon lover." Reports had her flying to Germany to spend Thanksgiving with Brown and the following day, she posted another photo, which seemed to show a shirtless Brown sleeping on a bed.

Brown then started dropping hints that the two were spending time together, posting a photo of a collection of watches ... one of which would soon show up on Rihanna's wrist. He also posted a photo of his MCM luggage, and Rihanna would follow suit by posting a pic of her posing with a bag designed by the company.

And then, in what is unquestionably the most defiant move yet, there's the picture Rihanna just posted, showing her embracing Brown, along with a message addressed to his Instagram account: "I don't wanna leave ... killed it tonight baby."

Since that pic made headlines, the two have cooled things off slightly, but there's no denying the fact that while they might be saying they're not a couple, well, their Instagram accounts suggest otherwise. There's a reason the old adage is true: A picture is worth a thousand words.

Chris Brown Twitter War: Jenny Johnson Pens A Non-Apology

It's been a whirlwind of a week for Chris Brown and his troubled relationship with Twitter

It all began with an angry back-and-forth between Brown and comedian and TV producer Jenny Johnson, which fired up his die-hard fans and led to the deletion of his Twitter account.

Brown has not yet spoken out about the incident, but on Friday (November 30), Johnson broke her silence with a personal essay via GQ magazine, in which she says she does not regret the incident but has learned a lot from the ordeal, which included receiving thousands of death threats.

"This is not an apology. I just want to clear some things up," Johnson began, summarizing what went down during the heated Twitter exchange.

She wrote that she assumed people would stop talking about her after a couple days — but they haven't.

"I didn't want attention from all of this," she continued. "If I wanted attention, I would have accepted all of the invitations to be on shows and to actually give exclusive interviews, but I declined all of them. I didn't think the thousands of (misspelled) death threats I got would have people thinking I saw myself as a victim, because I am NOT a victim of anything, nor have I ever thought I was (excluding the time I paid to see 'The Village'). I've had people assume I dislike Chris Brown because I'm taking up for Rihanna, I'm not. I'm on the side of good, of equality and respect for my fellow woman. I was raised to not respect a person who doesn't respect others. And one human being physically harming another human being is one of the most disrespectful acts there is. I have never been a victim of domestic abuse, nor was I raised in a house where there was abuse. I do, however, know people who have been victims of abuse by a so-called 'loved one' and I've seen the long term damage it does."

The feud started after Brown tweeted a photo of himself with the caption, "I look old as f---! I'm only 23." Johnson, who has been taking comedic pot shots at Brown online for several years since the singer pleaded guilty to felony assault on ex- (and perhaps current) girlfriend Rihanna, responded with the comment, "I know! Being a worthless piece of sh-- can really age a person." Brown took the bait, leading to a vulgar exchange that included a threat to "shart" in Johnson's mouth.

Has Chris Brown quit Twitter for good?

In her GQ piece, Johnson reiterated the fact that, as a comedian, her Twitter account is meant to be funny, i.e. not to be taken too seriously, and she took responsibility for setting Brown off in what she said was "certainly not my finest hour, but here we are."

"Even though I promised myself I would remain quiet on this subject, I just felt the need to clear the air on these certain topics," Johnson wrote in closing. "Don't worry Team Breezy, your hero is still on Instagram under the handle F---YoPictures. #Classy."

Britney Spears And will.i.am Are Living GIFs In 'Scream & Shout' Video

Britney Spears and will.i.am's video for is an eye-popping feast for the eyes, full of pricy gadgets, surreal images and funky dancers. When director Ben Mor was approached by his pal will.i.am to work on the clip, he had one word in mind: "iconic."

And very few artists are more iconic than Miss Spears when it comes to the world of music videos. Mor has worked with will and the Black Eyed Peas a number of times in the past, but this marked the first time he's worked with the video legend.

"I was very, very excited. Needless to say, I've always wanted to work with her and so completely looking forward to it, super stoked that I finally get to work with her," he told MTV News. "And she was absolutely super professional. [She] wasted no time, showed up before anybody else. [She] was spot on time, not a minute late. Her hair and makeup team, her glam team was amazing to work with. She did her thing. It was awesome to watch. She just lights up. The music kicks in, and it was just awesome. I can't say enough good things about her and her team. They were just awesome."

While it marks Mor's first project with Spears, this is not the first collaboration for Spears and will.i.am, who previously worked together on the 2011 Femme Fatale track "Big Fat Bass." "They definitely have like a brother/sister kind of camaraderie," Mor said. "You can tell they're comfortable around each other. ... Completely friendly, just completely natural. They were just sweet, effortless."

Brit, in her body-hugging, midriff-baring getup, stands as one of the most intriguing images in the video, but Mor broke down a few of the other eye-catching sequences in the clip. Mor said the clip "was essentially trying to reduce what the song is about to symbols. And that's what it was ... just really keeping it clean and iconic."

Fans were treated to multiple Brits and wills in the clip, in the form of computer-generated clones. That image, Mor said, was picked to vibe with the futuristic theme. "Again, I think when I decided on the style, I knew it was going to be sleek, minimalist. I knew it was going to have a white environment, a black environment, and I knew that I was going to a fashion kind of world, so it's almost like a moving fashion spread. Making them multiple matched the beat and visually popped. It's just a stylist choice. It didn't take too much brains to figure out it looked fresh," he said, adding, "What's better than 10 Britneys, you know?"

Then there is the equally unforgettable scene of will and his clique, mounted on the wall like hunted animals. "There's no deep meaning to any of it. It certainly wasn't trying to produce any narrative," he said. "So to me it was just about, you know, every scene is like a photo. I just liked it, I liked seeing the human heads, and I liked seeing the gold chains off of the plaques and then making it scroll. And then it was an awesome way to introduce characters, some friends of will ... so that it wasn't just about them."

Mor added: "It was about trying to show some youth culture. To us, we both like what's going on with all the GIF madness. GIFs are kind of like the new photos. The whole video is like hundreds of GIFs put together, if you will."

Then there is also the constant repeating image of the golden disco balls in flames. His reason for including that image was pretty simple: "I got the image in my head like I wanted to see a disco ball on fire."

Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Forever! Fans Are Pro-Reunion

NEW YORK — All signs point to a likely reconciliation between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez after they reportedly broke up earlier this month. They have since been spotted on many a dinner date, including some food and games at Dave & Buster's in Times Square on Wednesday night.

And while fans can't help but be slightly jealous of Selena for dating their man, they are very supportive of the twosome trying to make it work, with Beliebers like Caitlin Healy and her pal Emily Murtha calling themselves "pro-Jelena."

Justin Bieber says Selena Gomez has a "genuine heart."

"I feel like Justin and Selena are a good team together and that they should definitely get back together because that's what America loves and that's what we want: the happy couple together," Andrew Provencher told MTV News on Thursday night when Bieber was in town on his Believe Tour. "That's what we need."

Provencher is hardly the only person jumping on the Jelena bandwagon. "I think Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez should get back together because ... they're always so happy with their fans and they're always giving such positive things to other people," Adriana Cronin said. "I just think they made a really good couple."

Selena Gomez dishes on her holiday plans!

"They should get back together because they're a really cute couple," Illeana Cohen agreed. "And they're just really cute together."

Describing the twosome as a "perfect match," Willa Neubauer shared that she hopes he ends up with Gomez instead of a supermodel. "I don't want him to get together with a Victoria's Secret model, 'cause they're just perfect together," she said. (Justin had been rumored to be spending time with 19-year-old Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin at the time of their split.)

"I think that Selena and Justin should also get back together because I think they are a really cute couple, honestly," Madie Koral said. "And I think they attracted a lot of attention towards them, which helped them with their careers."

In the end, no matter what or who they choose, Provencher just wants them to be content. "I think that Justin and Selena should do whatever makes them happy, because, after all, it is their life, it is what they're doing. I mean, look, we're at Madison Square Garden. He's doing what he does best and what he loves," he said. "I feel like if he's with Selena and that makes him happy, great. If he's not with Selena and that makes him happy, then more power to you, man."

Psy's Success Is 'No Surprise' To Wonder Girls

There's no question Psy has had a whirlwind year. He's racked up more than 848 million views on YouTube, united with MC Hammer at the American Music Awards and gotten his "Gangnam Style" on with countless celebs, including Britney Spears and Madonna.

And while many of us are still scratching our heads regarding his overnight success, fellow Korean pop stars Wonder Girls say his accomplishments come as "no surprise."

"Psy was a huge star back in Korea," Wonder Girls member Yubin told MTV News. "We grew up listening to him, so we're very glad he's becoming huge here and all over the world."

But Psy isn't the only Korean artist making waves in the United States: The Wonder Girls' single "Like Money" hit #22 on Billboard's Hot 100 earlier this year, while Girls Generation charted on the Billboard 200 with their EP Twinkle.

"As a Korean singer, we're really proud and we're really delighted about this phenomenon," Sun from the Wonder Girls said of K-pop's success in the U.S. "I think people are really interested in new styles and new things."

Wonder Girls were nominated in the Favorite Asian Act category at the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards. The group released "Like Money," featuring Akon, earlier this summer, and their debut English album is due to drop sometime next year.

Joe Budden Boots Fan For Tweeting About 'Boring' Show

No artist wants to look out from the stage and see a fan yawning. But worse than that is going on Twitter to find out that someone in the house is telling the world that they think your show is boring and that nobody is into it.

That was too much for Slaughterhouse rapper Joe Budden on Thursday night during his show in Oakland, so the MC took matters into his own hands and tossed the offending tweeter. It all started when a woman in the crowd uploaded a photo of the show with the tag, "I wish this picture really captured how dead it is in here at this Joe Budden concert."

Attending with her boyfriend, the woman also uploaded a picture of a box of NoDoz as a commentary on how bored she was at the gig, with the added dis, "for the Budden concert tonight." According to her Twitter account, security came and pulled her out of the crowd, explaining that he would not take the stage until she was escorted out.

"So we are upstairs at VIP ... security asks me if I'm Paige," she tweeted. "I said, 'yes.' And they say, 'Joe Budden wants you out. I feel flattered though, they said they showed my Twitter picture and found me in the club." She later explained that she would "never heckle an artist," clarifying that she was tossed before Budden even came out to perform, adding that she's a fan.

Unlike nerdcore rapper MC Chris, who posted a weepy apology
for tossing a fan from one of his gigs for a critical tweet earlier this year, Budden clearly wasn't feeling contrite about his decision. Early on Friday morning (November 30), Bud tweeted, "I wish I could rewind life so I could kick that hoe out again lol."

Macklemore Weighs In On Teacher Suspended For Playing 'Same Love'

Macklemore has weighed in on the case of Susan Johnson, a performing arts teacher in Michigan who was suspended without pay after allowing one of her students to play the rapper's song "Same Love," which details the struggles of a gay man from birth to death.

"I believe that Ms. Johnson getting suspended is completely out of line and unjust," Macklemore wrote on his website. "However, I think it's important for moments like these to be exposed and for us to pay attention and respond. This level of intolerance and fear is still very active in America, but at times is not completely visible. This incident is just one of tens of thousands that have happened across the country where schools have exposed a latent homophobia, preventing safe space for all young people to feel confident in being themselves.

"It's clear that Ms. Johnson felt bullying and 'gay bashing' were issues that needed to be addressed, and by doing so, was punished," he continued. "I wrote the song 'Same Love,' not with the expectation that it would cure homophobia and lead to marriage equality across the US (although that'd be awesome). It was written with the hope that it would facilitate dialogue and through those conversations understanding and empathy would emerge. This incident demonstrates how too often we are quick to silence conversations that must be had."

Last week, Johnson allowed one of her eighth-grade students at Centennial Middle School to play "Same Love" in her classroom, after asking whether the song "was violent, [or had] any profanity." When the student said it didn't, Johnson let him play it, partially because "we're trying to instill ... tolerance to diversity."

However, another student in the class objected to the song's lyrics and complained to the principal. By the end of the day, Johnson claims both the principal and the assistant superintendent told her she was suspended indefinitely — without pay — because of the song's lyrical content, which deals with homosexuality, religion and politics, and contains a sexual slur.

When asked about the suspension by local new station Fox 2, the assistant superintendent did not elaborate on the suspension, though it quickly made national headlines, with both the ACLU and LGBT group Affirmation both voicing their support for Johnson. A Centennial grad also created a Facebook page, with the hopes of raising money to pay Johnson for the days she was suspended.

Johnson was back to work on Thursday, though, as Macklemore wrote, he's hoping her suspension — and the song itself — will only continue to spawn discussion about gay rights.

"Even if people disagree, there is far more potential for progress when people are vocal and honestly expressing their thoughts about gay rights. When we are silent and avoid the issue, fear and hatred have a far greater life span," he wrote. "It's discouraging that a song about love and civil rights has led to a teacher getting suspended from her job. But that's where we are at. For those of us who get a pit in our stomach when reading a story like this, it just makes it abundantly clear there is far more work to be done."

Stevie J Sex Tape 'Hurt My Heart,' Eve Says

Eve has a whole lot of things to be proud of in her career, but her infamous sex tape with Stevie J isn't one of them. Stevie J claims that the X-rated clip, which hit the Web back in the early 2000s, made his ex-girl hot. But E-V-E disagrees.

"It definitely didn't," Eve responded on Wednesday when she appeared on "When that happened, sex tapes weren't 'hot' like that, and I got the FBI involved. So that's not something I wanted to happen."

Actually, the tape has been the only real source of controversy in Eve's career. Outside of that, she has released multi-platinum albums and hit singles, broke into Hollywood, starred in her own sitcom and made her presence felt in the world of fashion. In 2013 Eve is plotting her official return to music with her upcoming album titled Lip Lock. Eve openly answered questions about the tape, but it was clear that she is still bothered by the lingering effects.

"I respect my mother and my family and that's not something I am OK with. And it hurt my heart that anyone who was in my circle — whether it be him [Stevie] or anybody else — it hurt my heart that that went out there," Eve said. "That wasn't my thing."

"I'm a pioneer, I'm the pioneer, young pioneer," Stevie said during his "RapFix Live" interview back in July. "I made a tape and gave it to her and she took it on the road, on tour with her, and the rest was history."

It's still unclear who released the footage. Stevie claims it wasn't him.

Seth MacFarlane Wants _You_ To Be A Part Of The Oscars!

Have you ever dreamed of going to the Oscars? How about being a part of the ceremony itself? Well, Seth MacFarlane, the man of many hats and the host of the 85th Academy Awards, recently announced a way for you to do just that via "The Oscar Experience College Search."

Presented by the Academy and our friends at mtvU, the contest is designed to find the next generation of Oscar hopefuls — current college students who are interested in pursuing careers in film. If selected, they will have the opportunity to appear live onstage to deliver Oscar statuettes to telecast presenters. MacFarlane delivered the announcement directly to its target audience during a recent taping of his appearance on mtvU's "Stand In," for which the network followed the "Family Guy" creator to the UCLA campus to surprise a class full of students during Professor Denise Mann's "Overview of Contemporary Film Industry" course.

"Part of the goal with this year's Oscars is to broaden the audience and get viewers young and old and the like," MacFarlane told MTV News about the contest's genesis. "This is part of the effort to bring in a younger crowd, get them invested, get them engaged in the culturally important event that is the Academy Awards."

"The Oscar Experience College Search" will be featured on the Academy's Facebook page and will run through January 19, 2013. To enter, college students need to demonstrate they're destined for the Oscars by completing the Academy's entry form and uploading a video answering the question: How will you contribute to the future of movies?

What advice does MacFarlane have to offer the Oscar hopefuls to make their videos stand out?

"If you're into comedy, get some laughs. If you're a dramatic filmmaker, try to say something profound or make somebody feel something," he said. "It depends on what your particular field of expertise is."

Don't let the chance to be a part of "The Oscar Experience" pass you by. You have from now until January 19, 2013 to submit your video entry. And be sure to tune in to see what wisdom MacFarlane imparted upon a group of unsuspecting film students on "Stand In: Seth MacFarlane," which premieres on mtvU and mtvU.com on December 10 at 10 a.m. ET.

Muse Cancel Shows After Matthew Bellamy Breaks Foot

Muse were forced to cancel a series of European shows this week after lead singer Matthew Bellamy broke his foot. Though details on how the injury was sustained were not available at press time, the affected shows include gigs in Stockholm, Malmo and Oslo.

"We're very sorry to have to announce that Muse's forthcoming shows in Oslo, Stockholm and Malmo have been cancelled as Matt has broken two bones in his foot," read a statement from the band. "The band have therefore made the difficult decision to cancel these gigs as they feel that they will not be able to do justice to their live show and the fans who have bought tickets with Matt performing on crutches. Muse would like to apologise to all their fans who have tickets to these shows. Refunds will be available from the point of purchase."

On Thursday, Bellamy tweeted a photo of an X-ray showing the damage with the message, "Ouch! Broke my foot." He followed with an image of himself standing with the aid of crutches while wearing an orthopedic boot on his right foot as a dog jumps up to lick his hand.

"Matt's progress will be monitored over the next few days, but the remaining dates on the tour are still scheduled to go ahead as planned," the statement added. "As soon as we have any news it will be posted on the Muse website, Facebook and Twitter accounts."

While ticketholders tried to be understanding, some were clearly upset at the news. "This is the third time this has happened to me," wrote fan Trackerjacker in comments on the band's site. "I give up. I'm never gonna see muse live fml."

Hejsan722 tried to calm rattled nerves, writing, "I'm not going to be bitter about this anymore. Still sad but it's not their fault they had to cancel. I love them anyway and I will be there when they're coming to Sweden. Because they will!"

Muse are not set to hit North America
on their tour in support of The 2nd Law until a February 2 date in Edmonton, Alberta.

Kelly Clarkson, Pitbull, More Added To 'VH1 Divas' Lineup

This year's bill just got a bit feistier. Show vet and Miss Independent herself Kelly Clarkson has been added to the A-list lineup, as have divo rapper Pitbull, Melanie Fiona a nd Metric.

Clarkson has appeared on the show twice before, in 2009 and 2011. This marks the first time for the other newly announced performers.

They'll join host Adam Lambert and previously announced performers Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, Ciara and Jordin Sparks.

"VH1 Divas" 2012 will air live on VH1 on Sunday, December 16, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT when it all goes down in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium. In addition to the announced performances by all those divas both male and female, the show will pay tribute to late divas Whitney Houston and Donna Summer. Both performers had appeared on the show several times before their deaths earlier this year. More performers and presenters are expected to be announced as the show date approaches.

"This is going to be one hell of a party! We are extremely thrilled to have the extraordinarily talented Adam Lambert as our 2012 'VH1 Divas' host," Lee Rolontz, EVP of VH1's original music production and development, said in a statement. "The world has truly been inspired by dance music and what better way for VH1 to pay tribute than by honoring legends Whitney Houston and Donna Summer through song and dance."

50 Cent Says French Montana Gave Him Footage For DJ Khaled Dis

French Montana has strong rap ties, particularly with Rick Ross and DJ Khaled, with whom he frequently collaborates. But are they all as cool as they appear to be? Well, 50 Cent casted a bit of doubt on Friday (November 30) when he revealed that French Montana helped him put together the 2009 viral clip which took aim at Khaled and his family.

In the clip, 50 performed a spoken word poem directed at Khaled while b-roll shots of Khaled's home and his mother flashed across the screen. As far as we know, 50 never harmed any members of Khaled's family, but the viral stunt did come off as a more than subtle threat. "But I just want to tell you what a psychic told me. I know where ya mama work at, look, sleep," 50 said in the video as footage rolled of a woman believed to be Khaled's mom sleeping behind a store counter.

At the time many questioned if the battle-ready rapper took the beef too far by involving Khaled's family, but 50 didn't obtain that footage on his own, it was given to him, he says. "Frenchie, they got me the tape," Fif accused when he appeared on Power 106's Big Boy's Neighborhood in Los Angeles again this morning. "They got me the tape of his mother's house, where his moms work at, the other cribs, the studios, stuff like that."

Before his days in rap, Montana did make his bones running his "Cocaine City" DVD series, where he would interview artists and kick freestyles of his own. Now French has emerged as one of rap's most anticipated artists. Montana's "Pop That" became a big hit peaking at #2 on the Billboard Rap chart, but the G-Unit CEO isn't ready to give French any credit noting that his big single also featured Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. "He's a guy that they put a record with two or three other guys that already established themselves in order to sell you something," he said. "You only gotta get away with listening to him for a whole 30 seconds, 40 seconds and then his verse is off and it goes to somebody that really worked to get there."

A fatherly 50 Cent forgets Chief Keef beef

The two rappers found themselves at odds after French commented on 50's penchant for beef in an interview with Complex.com. Fif took exception and a war of words ensued on Twitter. In a recent interview with DJ Drama, Montana dismissed 50 Cent by calling him a "donkey" and proclaimed that he is the most important person on Interscope, where he and Fif are both signed.

"What is the state of Interscope if he's the biggest artist there," 50 questioned.

Do you believe that French Montana supplied 50 Cent with footage to damage DJ Khaled? Let us know in the comments!

Vino Alan, Paige Thomas 'Surprised' By 'X Factor' Elimination

At this point in the season, with the exception of seemingly Teflon warbler CeCe Frey,
anyone voted off "X Factor" is shocked to hear their number come up.

But despite being disappointed and surprised at elimination
on Thursday night, both head-tatted growler Vino Alan and Rihanna-be Paige Thomas told MTV News the world has not heard the last from them.

"I feel amazing, I'm so happy with everything I've done on the show," said eighth place finisher Thomas, who was done in by her revamp of Rick Astley's Internet-famous "Never Gonna Give You Up." Determined to show mentor Demi Lovato that she knew best when it came to what her persona should be, the single mom said she was confident that she became a better performer each time she took the "Factor" stage.

"My confidence has just gone through the roof," she said. "I'm excited because now I can actually start working on my own stuff with no limits. There's so much more than I wanted to do ... now, instead of covering artist's songs I can start creating my own and start truly speaking about how I feel through my music."

For Alan, the news was even harder to take, since mentor L.A. Reid forced a song change on Vino at the 11th hour that seemed to throw the singer off. Lovato and Britney Spears both dubbed his take on the Righteous Brothers classic "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" predictable and tame, even as Reid defended his last-minute switcheroo.

"I was definitely surprised that one song choice could drop you all the way to the bottom," said former high-ranking finalist Alan. "And that Simon [Cowell] would decide to let me go on it. But everything's been happening for a reason up until now ... I know it sounds corny. Simon said it tonight, that it [was based] on that performance."

Though he still has love for Reid, Alan said there was definitely "no way" he would have chosen the golden oldie for himself. "It's not serving to my style and my voice," he said. "It wasn't L.A.'s fault."

One Direction Hit Merch Jackpot: First Dolls, Now A Fragrance!

Wondering what the fellas of One Direction want their ladies to smell like? Well, you'll soon wonder no more. The powerhouse boy band is set to launch their first-ever signature scent next year.

Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber, 1D's women's perfume will hit shelves in the fall of 2013. The band has partnered with fragrance company Olivann Beauty to create the perfume as well as "ancillary products," Women's Wear Daily reports. Olivann Beauty president Dana Kline confirmed that the fivesome have been working on the perfume for about six months now.

The name of the perfume will be confirmed in early 2013 before it hits department stores in areas where the band already has tour dates planned in the fall, followed by other markets. The guys are set to begin their massive 2013 world tour in February in Europe before landing Stateside in June.

The tour will also serve as the basis for their upcoming 3-D movie, which will be directed by Morgan Spurlock and filmed in part by bandmember Niall Horan.

"Well, we've been kind of [filming], we've always had a camera with us," Niall shared. "Like when we were touring America in the summer, we had a camera with us every day, and we were just kind of documenting stuff 'cause if it ever did come to a movie, then we'd have stuff ready for it. So we've already kind of started and the cameras are already coming out on the road with us a bit more now. Obviously doing [Madison Square Garden] next week and then the tour all year next year, hopefully it'll turn out as well as we want it to."

Fans who can't wait nearly a year to purchase the guys' perfume can (sort of) take a member of the group home with them this holiday season. One Direction just released their line of action figures this week.

"I think we all wanted them to be as authentic as possible, and obviously, if we got involved in the outfits and stuff, then it's a lot of stuff that we'd probably wear," Zayn Malik said about the "dolls." "And it's cool for the fans because they get a doll with outfits that we've picked."

'Twilight' Vs. Brad Pitt: Who'll Kill At This Weekend's Box Office?

Not even Brad Pitt can beat out the vampires and werewolves of "Twilight."

could very likely top the box office for a third consecutive weekend, battling for the #1 position with the biggest James Bond movie ever, The weekend's new releases, including Pitt's latest, are expected to land softly.

Overall, the box office should be relatively ho-hum in terms of attendance, as studios prepare to roll out heavy hitters like later in December. Brad Pitt's mob movie and the horror flick won't have a chance against the holdovers that drove this year's Thanksgiving holiday box office into the record books. Many industry forecasters gave this weekend to "Twilight," although Exhibitor Relations box-office analyst Jeff Bock gave a slight edge to Daniel Craig's third turn as 007.

" 'Twilight' will not go gentle into that good night," IMDb.com's Keith Simanton told MTV News. "I think it nabs $21 million as people who were out of town or prepping for Thanksgiving have time to catch up on the last installment."

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" has made $230 million domestically thus far. Most estimates for this weekend's take fall between $15 and $20 million. "Skyfall" should be in that range as well, making the top spot a bit of a toss-up. Daniel Craig's third turn as Agent 007 has made $227.2 million domestically after opening with more than $88 million.

sees Pitt re-teaming with Andrew Dominik, who helmed the critically acclaimed but barely seen "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." "Although many of the producers cite the reason the film wasn't seen was simply because the title couldn't fit on marquees, it's undeniable the 2007 western was shot dead by audiences, grossing under $4 million," said Bock.

"Killing," which played at Cannes, has received equally strong reviews. It should debut with $10 to $12 million.

a sequel to 2009's "The Collector," will be lucky to do half the business of Pitt's project. The original made $7.7 million domestically. The guys who wrote "The Collection" wrote four of the "Saw" movies. "For what it's worth, the sequel brings back the original stars and creative team but also carries a budget of $10 million, versus the original's $3.5 million," Bock pointed out. "Once conceived as a prequel to 'Saw,' this should give you everything you need to know about LD's chill pill. Advertising has been pretty heavy for an indie release and, depending on the theater count, could carve out $3 to $4 million or so."

Chris Brown: 'Love Is Something I Am Still Learning'

You might not know it from the recent spree of Instagram photos showing him and Rihanna exchanging pricey gifts, sharing hugs and catching cat naps, or from his profane Twitter feud with a female comedian last weekend, but Chris Brown says he's trying to keep his love life private and his Twitter voice quiet lately.

In excerpts released from a cover story interview in the December/January issue of XXL magazine, the singer touched on a number of hot topics, from yet another denial of a romantic relationship with ex-girlfriend Rihanna, to his beef with Drake (allegedly over Rihanna) and his sometimes impulsive social media past. "One thing people often want me to talk about is my public love life," he said in what is touted as his first major interview in two years. "When it comes to my love life, the perception seems as though I am a player. But that's not true ... Love is something I am still learning. It's just an obstacle that I haven't yet mastered. I think that's my biggest hurdle in life."

Though he admits to being too quick to hit "send" in the past in the XXL story, Brown clearly still has impulse issues as evidenced by his profane Twitter feud last weekend with comedian Jenny Johnson.

"I haven't been as mature and thought out in the past, so, me growing now, it's showing my progression," said Brown of his difficulty in the past with keeping his cool
on social media. "I used to use my Twitter account to vent, but now I mostly use it for marketing and promotions. Even if the media asks me something, if it's cool then it's, 'What's up?' But if it's anything that's too negative, I don't care to respond."

Do you believe that Breezy has left Twitter for good following his feud with Johnson?

Clearly speaking before the verbal joust with Johnson that resulted in him deleting his Twitter account, Brown further hinted at a newfound maturity in the piece, claiming that he's learned how to hold his tongue when insulted. "In the beginning, I used to be hot. I'm normal," he said. "I'm human, so if anybody says something that's a lie, I'm numb to it. I've smartened up."

After keeping his silence on the June club brawl between his crew and Drake's that has resulted in a string of lawsuits (but no criminal charges for either man), Brown said little to explain the origin of the beef.

"A lot of people wanna know about the whole situation with me, Drake and Meek Mill," he said. "At the end of the day, I'm me, they're them. They rap, I sing. Totally different caliber. I rap, I play around on mixtapes. But our words don't collide as much as you'd think."

Bottom line, said Brown? He uses his painting and music as an outlet to get through the confusion of his life. "I try to promote positivity and love," he said.

'The Collection': The Reviews Are In!

Halloween is long behind us, but you wouldn't know that if you were judging solely on this weekend's movie offerings.

Out in theaters now is director Marcus Dunstan's sequel to his 2009 horror flick that once again stars Josh Stewart ("The Dark Knight Rises") as Arkin, a thief forced to put his criminal ways aside to do battle with a ruthless foe. By most accounts, the sequel looks to be trading in the first movie's cat-and-mouse terror in favor of ramped-up gore and action, with some reviewers going so far as to make parallels between "The Collection" and James Cameron's "Aliens." Other critics haven't been quite as kind to this latest effort from Dunstan, one of the writers involved with the "Saw" franchise, with some describing the movie as "dumb, gross, gratuitous and overly familiar."

Read on for a round-up of "The Collection" reviews.

The Story
"The Collector's one knack is keeping a human souvenir, and the last we saw of cat burglar-turned-reluctant hero Arkin (Josh Stewart), he had become the killer's latest pet. He manages the mayhem of a nightclub massacre — admirable as a bit of first-act rug-pulling, and the film's first giddy signpost into tongue-in-cheek territory — while the Collector scoops up Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) as his next victim. Her millionaire father (Christopher McDonald) won't see her taken to escape amid without a fight, and so he hires a team of mercenaries to coerce Arkin into returning to the Collector's lair, a trap-laden hotel, in an effort to rescue the teenage girl." — William Goss, Film.com

The Sequel Factor
"'The Collection' feels sort of like the 'Aliens' to 'The Collector's' 'Alien.' The blood and gore are amped up to high and the idea of a group of mercenaries going to search for a surviving girl feels very similar in tone to Cameron's famous sequel. Sure this latest scarefest doesn't delve into the cat and mouse aspect that made the original frightening, yet it offers tons of over-the-top scares and a funhouse feel. Co-writers Dunstan and Patrick Melton ('Saw IV,' 'V,' 'VI' and 'VII') have effectively made a sequel that expands on their dark and twisted world in a gleefully gory way." &#8212[WJ1] ; JimmyO, JoBlo.com

The Bad Bad Guy
"Unfortunately, the Collector simply isn't a very interesting screen villain. Clad in a black mask that reveals only his eyes and mouth, he mainly communicates by heavy breathing. It makes one yearn for the perversely witty chatter of Jigsaw." — Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter

The Back-Handed Compliment
"['The Collection'] has enough nutty energy and oddball touches — 'The Wire's' Andre Royo shows up as a gun-toting, faux-hawk-sporting badass — that it's never boring. Dumb, gross, gratuitous, and overly familiar, sure. But never boring." — Keith Phipps, The A.V. Club

The Final Word
"Whereas the later 'Saw' films were hampered by bloated backstory, various ostentatious agendas, and self-satisfied sadism, 'The Collection' feels utterly unburdened by anything but its lean, fleet-footed plot. The pacing is propulsive, the death pieces are creative, and though the performances are one-note, they're never stiff or distracting." — Chris Cabin, Slant Magazine

Lindsay Lohan Lawyer Says Actress Was 'Certainly Not Intoxicated' Before Arrest

Lindsay Lohan may have legal troubles on both coasts and dwindling career options,
but according to her lawyer the one problem she does not have is a substance abuse one.

Following Lohan'sarrest
early Thursday morning on third-degree assault charges following a scuffle with another woman at a New York lounge, lawyer Mark Heller told E! News that the five-time rehab veteran was not drinking or doing drugs before she allegedly yelled at and punched a woman in the face following a disagreement at the Avenue lounge in Manhattan.

"I can tell you when I was with her this morning, she was in great condition," Heller said of Lohan, 26, on Thursday following her release from custody in the case. Heller said the
actress was acting "perfectly appropriate" and was clear-headed when police charged her in the case. He did note, however, that he did not ask Lohan if she had been drinking or doing drugs at any point in the evening. "It wasn't even brought up," he said.

Check out a timeline of Lindsay Lohan's legal troubles.

"She was certainly not intoxicated, certainly not under the influence of drugs. She was clear [and] lucid, her eyes were clear," said Heller. "No alcohol involvement whatsoever on this occasion." Lohan will be arraigned in the case on January 7, but Heller is hoping it doesn't even make it to court.

"We are going to be working very earnestly to establish that no charges should even be lodged," he told E!. "[The police] have already made arrangements to get the video from the ... club, which hopefully will reveal some exonerating information. After that, they could just walk away from the case and decline to even prosecute." A slightly different story emerged from a chat the alleged victim in the case had with TMZ, however. The woman, a well-known Florida psychic, said she offered to give Lohan a free reading, which the actress turned down.

After Lohan allegedly insulted the woman, the psychic's friend fired back at Lindsay, at which point the actress allegedly struck the woman. The site also quoted unnamed sources close to Lohan saying that she has been drinking heavily lately and had been doing so on the day and night of the brawl.

Still unconfirmed are reports that Lohan and the woman got into it after both were vying for the affections of the Wanted's Max George
in the wind-up to the scuffle.

Snooki's 'Awkward' Baby Shower Was 'Perfect,' Deena Says

It's hard to believe that the sun is almost setting on the "Jersey Shore" because with only three more episodes to go, it's almost time to say goodbye to the housemates we have grown to know and love over the years.

The sixth and final season of in the house with most of the roommates in serious relationships and Snooki being six months pregnant at the time with her first child, Lorenzo.

Without her partner in crime for this season, Deena Cortese had a hard time adjusting to life on the boardwalk without Snooki, a.k.a. her "meatball," but on Thursday night's episode, the two reunited for a girls' night out.

"I think my struggle was during the first couple episodes I was trying to find a meatball and trying to replace Nicole, and she was there the entire time and we didn't need alcohol," Deena told MTV News. "So I think in these next couple episodes you see us unite and realize we can still be meatballs. ... I think it just shows us on a different level."

They certainly have done a lot of growing up on their time on the "Jersey Shore" and that was evident during Thursday's episode because instead of a long night out at the club, they were throwing a surprise baby shower for Snooki.

"It was hard because we had to stay away from her," Deena said of trying to keep the baby shower a secret from Snooki. "Just like when we would do things she thought we were leaving her, but when we were leaving it was actually because we were doing something for the baby shower and she couldn't really be there so she felt really left out for a little bit but it was OK because in the end it turned out perfect."

Not sure if Snooki would call it "perfect" since there were some uncomfortable moments between her fiancé and Vinny, whom Snooki had hooked up with in previous seasons. Yet, Vinny decided it was time to talk with Jionni and settle their differences, which unfortunately, will unfold in next week's episode, but according to Deena, she tries to stay out of the drama.

"It was awkward because there was so much going on," Deena said. "But at the same time I think it was more awkward for all of them rather than everybody else. I was there to celebrate Lorenzo and Nicole. Honestly, I don't care about the drama."

Besides the drama at the shower there was one other thing: gifts. So who got Snooki the best baby shower gift? None other than their Shore Store boss Danny.

"Danny got her a really expensive bottle of champagne," Deena revealed. "For when she wasn't pregnant."

Don't miss the final season of Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. For more "Shore" coverage, head to MTV's Remote Control blog.

'Killer Karaoke' A 'Blatant Jab' At Singing Shows, Steve-O Says

"Jackass" star Steve-O is no stranger to "crazy sh--," and in his new truTV show "Killer Karaoke," he told MTV News that he subjects contestants to a whole lot of it.

In the series that could be considered a hybrid between "The X Factor" and "Fear Factor," the former MTV personality puts contestants through an assortment of extreme physical challenges — and it all takes place while they're singing a hit song.

" 'Killer Karaoke' is a heartwarming little show where people sing and bad stuff is happening to them, making it tough for them to sing and hilarious at the same time," Steve-O told MTV News. "They're getting electrocuted while they're trying to sing Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's awesome. I can't get enough of it."

It's not just the 38-year-old singing the competition's praises either: The New York Times called "Killer Karaoke" (seriously) "the greatest show in television history" — a compliment even Steve-O couldn't believe.

"I was like, 'Come on, dude, The New York Times?' And it turned out it was true!" he said about reading the review for the first time. "I think what they're particularly appreciating about 'Killer Karaoke' is the way that it's a blatant jab at this played-out genre of singing competition shows and just the way that we're really sort of transparent and upfront about what it is, which is an exercise in people leaving their dignity and well-being at the door, and it's just a new low in an ever-devolving sort of medium, you know, like, it's everything that's wrong with America, and I think The New York Times can appreciate that."

While you probably won't recognize any of the contestants on the show, Steve-O has a suggestion if they open up the competition to celebs: "I would have Justin Bieber singing with no security and an arena with naked chicks just clawing away at him. That would probably be pretty cool. Who wouldn't want to see that?"

"Killer Karaoke" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on truTV.

Brad Pitt In 'Killing Them Softly': The Reviews Are In!

director Andrew Dominik's tale of a poorly thought-out heist and the mob enforcer (Brad Pitt) who has to clean up the mess, has proven to be a divisive film when it comes to the critics. Some have heralded the rise of a modern classic, while many, many others can't stand the heavy-handed allegory at the heart of the theme.

Whether the parallels to the 2008 financial collapse hold down the latest from Pitt and his "Assassination of Jesse James" director or raise it up is up to you, but this is what the critics are saying about "Killing Them Softly."

Brad Pitt
"This is one of those effortless Pitt performances that exemplify how beautifully he manages to be both a serious actor and a superstar; the slicked-back hair, aviator sunglasses and gold chains are a showy shorthand to signify he's a dangerous guy, but the consistently surprising choices he makes with the rat-a-tat dialogue reveal his character's intelligence." — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press

The Director
"Dominik is two directors in one, really: He'll sit back and content himself with framing simple, clean two-person verbal sequences when called for. He's also skillful in staging violence on the move, as in the scene where Liotta's bantamweight bigwig is dragged through and then out of his office trailer by extreme force. The picture offers some easy, brutal laughs and some harder ones, and now and then, it finds a way to make the laughter stick in your craw." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Message
"It's a clumsy device, a feint toward significance that nothing else in the movie earns. Perhaps the bankers and speculators who ruined the economy are linked in some way to the punks and lowlifes who ruin themselves, and maybe Cogan is the allegorical double of Ben Bernanke. Anything is possible, since the movie is more concerned with conjuring an aura of meaningfulness than with actually meaning anything." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

The Final Word
"Everything in 'Killing Them Softly' that springs from George V. Higgins' 1974 crime novel 'Cogan's Trade' is very fine: grimly amusing then shockingly brutal. It's when New Zealand-born director and screenwriter Andrew Dominik veers off course to give us his deep thoughts on the American character that it's a head-slapper. The effect is genuinely odd." — David Edelstein, New York

Korean pop rides "Gangnam Style" into U.S. music scene

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Gangnam Style," the catchy Korean song by rapper Psy, may have danced its way into the American charts but the Korean pop industry isn't horsing around when it comes to capitalizing on the singer's phenomenal U.S. success.

With "Gangnam Style" topping the current Billboard Digital Songs chart and becoming the most-watched video on YouTube ever with more than 800 million views, fellow Korean pop, or K-pop, artists are positioning themselves for similar U.S. breakthroughs.

Korea's pop music industry is thriving. Over the past two years, a handful of K-pop acts including girl group 2NE1, boy band Super Junior and nine-piece band Girls Generation have embarked on mini-promotional tours around the United States to build their audience.

"Psy has opened doors and is shining a spotlight on K-pop. People are paying attention to what's being done there," Alina Moffat, general manager at YG Entertainment group, which manages Psy, told a recent entertainment industry conference in Los Angeles.

Psy's vibrant music video, featuring his invisible pony-riding dance, also featured K-pop artists Kim Hyun-a of girl band 4Minute, and Deasung and Seungri of boy band Big Bang, all of whom are attempting to crack the U.S. market.

"YouTube has really changed the awareness of K-pop. Both American kids and second-generation Korean American kids are discovering it," Kye Kyoungbon Koo, director of the Korea Creative Content Agency, told a panel at a Billboard and Hollywood Reporter conference in Los Angeles in October.

MARKETING THE NEXT BIG THING

For U.S. companies looking to invest, K-pop is being marketed as the next big thing, boasting young, stylish and influential artists who command devoted fan followings.

Moffat said car companies and mobile phone brands were among those being courted at KCON, a convention held in October in Irvine in Southern California that showcased K-pop artists.

"Kids are coming, they're engaged, they want to spend money and sponsors saw that," Moffat said.

Whether Psy or other K-pop artists can command a global following to rival Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber or Rihanna remains to be seen, but John Shim, senior producer at MTV World, believes it is the right genre to compete with pop music's biggest names.

"K-pop admittedly is a very niche genre but I also think it's the best equipped of Asian pop to cater to the U.S. audience," Shim told Reuters.

Psy has helped to break down language barriers, keeping "Gangnam Style" in its original Korean form instead of adapting it to English when it became an international hit.

The singer told Reuters he was persuaded to keep it that way by his manager Scooter Braun, the talent scout responsible for Justin Bieber's success, who signed Psy to his record label.

"I thought, 'Should I translate this or not?' because (the fans) have got to know what I'm talking about, and lyrics are a huge part," Psy said.

CHATTING IN ENGLISH

But industry executives say at least one member of each K-Pop group is usually taught to be fluent in conversational English.

"The investment in language is costly, but effective," said Ted Kim, president of South Korean music television channel Mnet. "It really matters that Psy can go on the Ellen DeGeneres TV show and have a conversation."

Psy said he was proud his song succeeded in Korean, but he now wants to branch out into English.

"'Gangnam Style' is not the sort of thing that's going to happen twice. I've definitely got to make something in English so I can communicate with my fans right now," the singer said.

In Korea, bands such as SM Entertainment's Super Junior and Girls Generation have became branding powerhouses, scoring endorsements ranging from cosmetics, fashion, video games, electronics and beverages.

In the United States, companies such as Samsung have already jumped on the K-pop train, sponsoring Korean boy band Big Bang's U.S. tour.

But while the genre is gaining steam in the charts, it has yet to spill into ticket sales for tours, according to Gary Bongiovanni, editor in chief at Pollstar.com, which tracks concert sales.

"Psy may be able to sell out arenas in Asia, but not yet here. For the American audience, he has to prove that he's more than a novelty act," Bongiovanni said.

"K-pop has to prove itself before large companies spend money on it," he added.

'X Factor' Results: Two Singers Are _Not_ 'On Fire'

Two seeming front-runners were forced to sing for their survival on Thursday night's results show, with Vino Alan and Paige Thomas eventually heading out the door.

Thomas was the first act to get the boot. The audience was audibly shocked and coach Demi Lovato's jaw hung wide open, but Thomas took it all in stride, not letting the setback bring her down. "I'm excited because I get to go home and work hard and get better," she said. "I got bigger things to do and better things, and I'm excited for what I have in the future."

Alan went voice-to-voice with Diamond White in a sing-off after they were revealed as the other duo in the bottom three.

White kept a smile on her face as she entered the stage to sing Beyoncé's triumphant track "I Was Here." The 13-year-old, who was brought back into the competition in the top 13 after being let go by coach Britney Spears, has thrived since her return, but her previous brush with elimination seemed to add an extra urgency to her survival song. Vino Alan, meanwhile, shed his jacket as he entered, proving he was about to leave it all on the stage with his take on Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble." And did he ever, pouring every ounce of emotion into the soulful song.

It was an especially tough decision for the judges, but in the end, only Alan's coach, L.A. Reid, opted to vote against White, so the tattooed soul singer — who was consistently in the top three on the leaderboard this season — got the boot.

How did CeCe Frey survive yet another week on "X Factor"?

"America didn't get to see half of what I have," Vino said. "I'm really shocked at this, though. Stay inspired, keep in touch. Unfortunately, I can't stop making music; I'm going to keep making music."

"I'm really proud of Vino," Reid said. "He's come a long way. You've come this far in the competition, [and] I'm really happy to call you family."

In the enduring mystery of the season, CeCe Frey, Thomas' polarizing teammate, is not only still around, she wasn't even in the bottom three. Fitting with her previous penchant for leopard-print body paint, Frey seems to have nine lives this season, avoiding double elimination after double elimination and successfully singing for her life twice.

Two performers hit the stage during the results show, including "X Factor" alum Josh Krajcik, who finished in second place to season-one champ Melanie Amaro. Krajcik performed "One Thing She'll Never Know" from his self-titled EP, which is available now.

Alicia Keys brought the title track from her Girl on Fire album, which was released Tuesday. The multi-Grammy winner didn't come alone, bringing a stage full of dancers and drummers for the production. Keys, in a midriff-baring tight black top-and-skirt combo and a side-swept hairdo, commanded the stage during the awards-show-worthy performance.

After last week's leaderboard shakeup, Carly Rose Sonenclar retained her #1 spot. Let's see where the top six ended up:

1. Carly Rose Sonenclar
2. Tate Stevens
3. Emblem3
4. Fifth Harmony
5. CeCe Frey
6. Diamond White
