'X Factor' Results: Who Went Home?

All right, America, are you ready to find out which three acts made it through to the "X Factor" season finale and which artist had their dreams crushed?

Going into Thursday's (December 13) results show, we predicted that Fifth Harmony would be packing their bags, in large part due to their underdog status, but as they sang on Wednesday night: "Anything Can Happen."

After an excruciating hour of waiting to hear the name of the final act to be eliminated ahead of the season finale, Emblem3 was sent home. "I'm just so honored to have gone through this experience. We're so grateful," Emblem 3's Wes Stromberg said, adding a special shout-out to their fans. "I know you voted your butts off. We love you, and we're going to continue to make music."

Their mentor Simon Cowell wasn't as positive about the loss. "This is the way it goes on a competition. I thought they had a fantastic night last night," he said. "I'm extremely disappointed. But you're going to have a huge career," he said to his group.

This means that your season-two "X Factor" finalists are Fifth Harmony, Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Sonenclar, who will be battling it out for the crown and the $5 million record-deal riches.

Mentor Cowell couldn't hide his own shock when it was announced that Fifth Harmony were safe and Emblem3 and Sonenclar ended up in the bottom two. "I believe in miracles, and these girls, I thought they were sensational last night," he said. "I could not be happier."

"I'm very shocked," L.A. Reid said when asked for his thoughts.

L.A. Reid won't return to "The X Factor" next season.

"I was a little disappointed," added Britney Spears. "I thought it was going to be the other way around with the groups."

On the lighter side of things, the final four performed a unique arrangement of Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home," which offered each of the remaining contestants an opportunity to showcase their signature singing styles. Guest performers included up-and-coming pop star Bridgit Mendler from Disney Channel's "Good Luck Charlie," who performed her upbeat single "Ready or Not," followed by recent MTV "Big & Best of 2012" performer Bruno Mars, who brought the house down with a lively version of his #1 single "Knocked Out of Heaven."

L.A. Reid Will Not Return For Season Three Of 'X Factor'

Looks like third time isn't the charm for L.A. Reid, who announced Thursday afternoon (December 13) that he will not return to the judging panel for the third season of "The X Factor."

In a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the bigwig record executive shared his "utmost respect" for show creator Simon Cowell, saying, "He is the very best, and I have had the opportunity to learn so much from him. Working with him on 'X Factor' has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Reid's departure from the Fox singing competition leaves the industry heavyweight with time to get back to his work as Epic Records chairman, and it sounds like he's content with that. In an interview with "Access Hollywood," Reid explained that his day job was the main reason for leaving the show.

"I have a huge responsibility to a roster of artists, and it's kind of time for me to stop doing the me show and get back to doing the them show," he said. Asked who he would like to see take his seat next year, Reid suggested Jon Bon Jovi.

Credited for the success of superstars like Justin Bieber, Pink and Avril Lavigne, Reid was a no-brainer decision when Cowell announced him as the first judge signed for season one of the show. From the looks of season two, it seems as if Reid will have another artist to add to his résumé, with country mentee Tate Stevens one of the show's front-runners.

It's the latest shakeup for Cowell's Stateside singing competition, which has seen judge firings, host replacements and not-so-stellar ratings since its transition across the pond. And even though Britney Spears told reporters she's down for another year of "The X Factor," there has been no official word as to whether she or Demi Lovato will reprise their roles as judges during the 2013 season.

Kristen Stewart's 'Monotone' Voice Gets Melodic 'On The Road' Makeover

Kristen Stewart has done accents before. You need to look no further than the blockbuster big-screen adaptation of "Snow White and the Huntsman" for a prime example. But creating Marylou for the big screen version of Jack Kerouac's was a completely different kind of experience. It wasn't really just about the way she sounds when she speaks, but also about what's embodied in every word she says.

So, when Stewart and the rest of the crew sat down to study up on the film, they were treated to audio recording of Lu Anne Henderson, the woman that Kerouac had based his "On the Road" character on. From there, she began to come to life.

"It's funny. For one thing, it's in 1948, and people spoke with a very different canter, literally it is like an accent. And [we] had listened to these tapes of hers and I think it took five minutes for everyone to sort of look around the table and just start laughing cause no one really knew how to handle how infectious it was," she told MTV News on Thursday (December 13) at a junket for the December 21 release.

And, Stewart really had to adopt the speech pattern of Marylou, who she explains sounds nothing like her. She added, "It was like suddenly everyone just completely fell in love with her, the way her voice sort of ... it's really melodic. It goes up and down and is everywhere incredibly expressive, whereas I do speak in a very monotone sort of way. Even though she grew up in L.A. and then moved to Denver, she just sounded like she was from a different world."

Moviegoers will be transported to another world when they go to the Walter Salles-directed flick, which co-stars Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund as the story's main fellas, Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, respectively. The film takes place in the late 40's as those dudes, along with Marylou and a colorful cast of characters, embark on a journey in a time before words like "LOL" and "NSFW" had made it into the English-speaking vernacular.

"The one thing that struck me was they just used more words to describe what they spoke about, but I didn't find myself saying words like 'swell'," she said, but did note she took something away from the flick. "And there is one thing that she said constantly that I tried to adopt actually and by the end of it did, I could naturally kind of own it. But she was constantly going 'in any case' 'cause she was constantly in one direction and another, just constantly talking about a million different things. After everything she said it was 'in any case.' It was really cute."

Yeah, Taylor Swift Wore A Wig To Be A 'Different Girl' In 'Trouble'

Leave it to Taylor Swift to do something as perfectly planned out as releasing her latest music video, "I Knew You Were Trouble," on her birthday. What makes it even sweeter is the fact that it happens to be the release of her 23rd music video dropping on her 23rd birthday.

Except she kind of didn't realize it all worked out like that until now.

"It's like a golden video birthday. I realized that like five minutes ago when someone told me and now I'm all excited about it," she told MTV News during the latest episode of "MTV First." "I can't believe it lined up like that."

Taylor Gets A Golden Globe Nod For Her Birthday! And, among all her videos she's dropped so far over the course of her career, this latest video is her favorite. And, her explanation for she loves it so much, also acts as a sort of Cliffs Notes as to what goes down in the Anthony Mandler-directed clip.

"I think that this video is my favorite right now just because I've never had a video that was so action-packed, where it's like 'Oh my god! They're fighting, now they're in a hotel room and now he's like getting a tattoo, and now like there's a rave, and then there's a concert and he's kissing another girl and there's all this stuff going on. It's insane, like he's driving. How's he standing up and driving?' It's just like fast-moving, just like the song," she said, also showing love to her bad boy co-star Reeve Carney. "And I think the actor who played the guy in the video, Reeve Carney, is like one of the most amazing, talented people I've gotten to be around."

Taylor Swift's Top 5 Moments of 2012!

While the slightly NSFW plot may shock some Swifties, others may find her cropped, pink-tipped hair equally edgy. "I was wearing a wig, yeah. It was just kind of like, I felt like I was really stepping into a character," she said. "Like I actually got to feel like I was this different girl, who was pulled into this different storyline, and with the pink hair and everything, I felt like it really kind of showed how she changed."

One Direction Are MTV's Best Artists Of 2012!

If you need evidence of One Direction's massive 2012, look no further than the previously empty space on Seventh Avenue vacated by bellied-up booksellers Borders. Nestled into the side of New York's largest concert venue, Madison Square Garden, and sitting above Penn Station's massive transit hub, the retail space was a real-estate goldmine and could have easily gone with another Starbucks, McDonald's or place to sell "I Love NY" T-shirts.

Instead, realtors opted for the hottest commodity possible: 1D.

New York City felt the effects of the boy band's worldwide phenomenon with the addition of a new store, solely dedicated to Harry, Liam, Louis, Zayn and Niall. Packed with band bling, cozy onesies, posters, cardboard cutouts and T-shirts with customizable "Future Mrs. Payne" sayings, the pop-up store took 1D fandom and gave it a place to live — in the homes of each and every Directioner (1D World has locations in Canada and Australia too!).

But if real-estate examples aren't really your thing, know this: One Direction are MTV's Best Artists of 2012 — and there are plenty of reasons.

In March, Up All Night became the first debut LP from a British group to premiere at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album had been released in the U.K. first, but after fans started catching on Stateside, we saw a full-on British invasion. Eight months after Up All Night came to the U.S., fans were invited to Take Me Home — and they did, taking home 540,000 copies of the sophomore album, which (guess what?) also debuted at #1.

By the time the guys hit up the Kids' Choice Awards later in March, America had gotten the One Direction infection — including Sasha and Malia Obama — and the band was ready to make the rounds at a year full of award shows. MTV's 2012 Video Music Awards in August gave them three Moonmen, earning a win in each category they were up for. At the American Music Awards in November, the boys got three nominations as well. And three was the charm, when they took away three prizes at the Teen Choice Awards.

Of course, it's not just record sales and awards that matter: The real force behind One Direction is the Directioners. You know, the ones who camped out all weekend in the cold to watch their performance on the ? (By the way, that performance broke a "Today" show record, drawing in 15,000 people to Rockefeller Plaza.) They were the ones who had their hearts broken when Zayn Malik quit Twitter, insisting and succeeding in getting him to rejoin in a day's time. And they were the ones who screamed, cried and sang along on One Direction's tour.

In a year where the five teenagers topped the charts, invaded "Saturday Night Live," met the queen and helped close out the Olympics, One Direction played the biggest concert of their life at Madison Square Garden. It was their first arena-level show, and tickets sold out in 10 minutes. And a week later, they played there again, the crowd of Directioners never waning as they waited for the band under 15-feet tall banners of Niall, Harry and company — all right next door to that little pop-up shop in New York City.

Congrats on an awesome year, One Direction!

12-12-12 Concert Raises $30 Million For Sandy Relief

Nothing makes a star-studded charity concert more worthwhile than when people actually tune in to watch the electrifying performances — and then open up their wallets to donate money to the cause.

That was the case with Wednesday night's five-hour 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, which raised money to support those individuals and neighborhoods impacted by the October hurricane, particularly in New York and New Jersey. According to the organizers, the Robin Hood Foundation, more than $30 million was raised from ticket revenue, sponsorships and corporate donations.

With a lineup that included Kanye West, Bruce Springsteen and Beatle Paul McCartney, who lit up the stage in a surprise duet with the surviving members of Nirvana, even those not lucky enough to snag tickets could to the show at Madison Square Garden, got front-row seats to the televised event.

And five hours of programming meant fans were treated to both scheduled sets and surprises. West, Springsteen and McCartney shared the bill with Alicia Keys, the Who, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, and a team-up of Coldplay's Chris Martin with R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Roger Waters and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. A slew of celebrity guest hosts were also on hand to introduce segments on affected neighborhoods: Kristen Stewart, Adam Sandler (who sang a joke-filled, Sandy-themed remake of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"), Diddy, Chris Rock, Katie Holmes, Jon Stewart, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Blake Lively, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steve Buscemi and Chelsea Clinton.

A final total for donations made by phone and over the Internet is still to come, but a spokesperson said they hope to have a firm tally by next Monday. (Additional funds were also raised through merchandise sales, auctions of autographed items, CD and DVD sales and iTunes downloads.)

To donate to the victims of Sandy, you can still call 1-855-465-4357 or visit 121212concert.org.

'Star Trek Into Darkness': Will A Hero Die?

As much as fans have been are clamoring for any early insight into we have to hand it to director (and world-class secret-keeper) J.J. Abrams for holding strong to his practice of safeguarding his film plots — and making sure his actors do too.

Proof? No matter how many times we asked, none would give up the true identity of the movie's villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. With no strong clues yet about who the sequel's bad guy will be, we turned our attention to some of our favorite "Star Trek" characters. Should we be worried about their fates? Surely Abrams wouldn't actually kill off a fan favorite. Or would he?

MTV News recently caught up with stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, and we asked them point-blank if we need to prepare ourselves for a major onscreen loss.

"There's reason to worry, let's say that much," Quinto teased. "The enemy we face in this movie, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is entirely different than the enemies we've seen this crew face in the past. There's insidiousness and ruthlessness and a fierce intelligence to his character that almost infiltrates and undermines the connectivity of the crew to the degree that the stakes are much higher. He added, "It's much more urgent and there's a lot more at risk, so who knows?"

What we do know so far about "Into Darkness" isn't much, however, fans will soon get a nice tease of some of the film's action with the nine-minute sneak peek of footage set to run before "The Hobbit" at IMAX theaters. But all signs point to the fact that the film might be darker and more intense than the first, especially since Cumberbatch's villain is a devious "terrorist" and all.

Adele's "21" is top-selling U.S. iTunes album of 2012

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British singer Adele notched another accolade on Thursday as iTunes announced that her Grammy-winning album "21" was the top-selling record of 2012 in its U.S. store, extending the disc's successful run almost two years after it was released.

Adele, 24, who last year became the first artist to secure three iTunes milestones with top-selling album, single and artist of the year, came in ahead of country-pop star Taylor Swift's "Red" and British folk band Mumford & Sons' "Babel."

ITunes did not reveal its sales or download figures.

British boy band One Direction's debut album "Up All Night" and current Grammy nominees fun.'s debut "Some Nights" rounded out the five top-selling albums on iTunes in the United States.

"21," released in February 2011, has performed strongly in the U.S. music charts this year following the singer's Grammy-sweeping win in six categories in February 2012.

Adele also landed Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nominations for her sultry James Bond theme song "Skyfall" this week, becoming a strong contender in the best song category for Hollywood's awards season.

"Thank you so much for the honor of being included in something as brilliant as the Golden Globes! Never in a million years did I ever think I'd come close to such a thing! Truly wonderful ... thank you to the Bond family for giving me the opportunity," the singer said in a statement on Thursday.

ITunes U.S. compiled their Best of 2012 list by looking at the most downloaded items from the Apple iTunes store.

Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen had the top-selling track for her infectious breakthrough summer single "Call Me Maybe."

Post-apocalyptic action film "The Hunger Games" was the best-selling movie while the second season of British aristocratic period drama "Downton Abbey," another Hollywood awards favorite, was iTunes' top-selling television series.

Kendrick Lamar Or Gotye? Celebs Pick Their Best Artist Of The Year!

While MTV has compiled our definitive list of the Best Artists of the Year, a top 10 that includes viral sensation Psy and Rihanna, when we asked stars themselves for their picks, we heard some interesting choices.

Although many of the selections were on par with our list — I'm really digging Frank Ocean," Jordin Sparks told MTV News of our #6 pick — others brought some different, yet well deserved, names to the table.

"The Lumineers were definitely the artists of the year for me," "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson said of the 2013 Grammy nominees for Best New Artist.

Christina Perry backed Hutcherson's pick: "My favorite artist and song of the year is the Lumineers."

And though the Denver-based folk-rock act got lots of love, many of our interviewees agreed with Miss Sparks in giving kudos to the Channel Orange singer.

"I was a huge fan of Frank Ocean this year," Ne-Yo said of Ocean, who performed at the VMAs, opened up about his sexuality and nabbed six Grammy nominations in the last year alone.

Both the Neon Trees and the Backstreet Boys were getting down with "Somebody That I Used to Know."

"I think we all agree that Gotye is one of our favorites," BSB's Nick Carter declared.

But it was all about Kendrick Lamar for Disney star Roshon Fegan, who cited his main reason as, "Number one, just bringing that real, just West Coast hip-hop back."

Stick with MTV as we count down the Best of 2012, including the Best Songs of 2012, Best Albums of 2012, Best Artists of 2012 and Movies of the year.

Trinidad James Signs Joint Venture With Def Jam

Looks like there'll be a lot more gold in Trinidad James' future now that the rap rookie has signed with Def Jam Recordings to end a hyped-up bidding war.

After a week of all-but confirmed rumors, it was officially announced Thursday (December 13) that Trinidad will be bringing his Gold Gang Records over to Def Jam in a joint venture deal. Many are speculating that the contract is worth $2 million, though the number is unconfirmed.

"We're excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family," Def Jam President Joie Manda said in a press release issued to MTV News. "Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop's rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what's happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz."

The 25-year-old James caught fire in October after he dropped his buzzing single "All Gold Everything" and his debut mixtape Don't Be S.A.F.E. Trinidad made his "RapFix Live" debut earlier this month, and explained why he was such a hot commodity.

"It's really hard for a label to impress the artist, per se, because I'm just so focused on being my own man," Trinidad said of the interested labels when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on December 5. "Man, show me something, like something for real."

While on the show, James wouldn't exactly say which companies were courting him, but he remarked on a number of labels, as MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway threw out a bunch of names.

Interscope: "Man, maaaaaan. Bruh, bruh, c'mon."

RCA: "Cool, cool."

MMG: "Real, real, real deal Holyfield."

Def Jam: "Historic, historic, a lot of respect."

Looks like Def Jam's legacy beat out all of the competitors. "Def Jam, thank you for believing," James ended the press release.

Exclusive 'Pacific Rim' Trailer Commentary: Guillermo Del Toro Reveals All

Guillermo del Toro is a 48 year-old filmmaker making a 12 year-old boy's movie — and he's the first to admit that in our exclusive trailer commentary for

MTV News sat down with del Toro this week to talk about everything that was revealed in the first full look at the filmmaker's upcoming monster-battling robot epic. Even if you've watched the trailer on a continuous loop since its debut, trust us — you haven't learned anything until you've heard del Toro's blow-by-blow account.

Read on for some of the highlights, and watch the full trailer commentary for much more!

The Making of Mako
The first scenes featured in the trailer, depicting a young girl witnessing a Kaiju attack, are not the first scenes you'll see in "Pacific Rim." The sequence actually takes place in the middle of the film, a flashback that reveals the history of co-lead Mako Mori (played by Rinko Kikuchi), who lost everything to the Kaiju.

"This is how she decided to fight Kaijus, and what happened to her as a kid," del Toro explains.

Another World
As Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh Antrobus explains (in a monologue that does take place at the beginning of the film), the Kaiju invaded Earth from a portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Del Toro assures that we'll get up close and personal with that portal.

"This is the geological fault at the bottom of the ocean. But in the film you'll see the inter-dimensional portal above that," he says. And that's not all: according to del Toro, we'll also see what's on the other side of the portal, which is where the Kaiju come from.

First Contact
Man met monster when the Kaiju forces emerged from the Pacific, with their first target being San Francisco. The destruction of the City by the Bay, as seen in the trailer, is indeed the first Kaiju assault recorded in human history.

"It's the very first attack, ever," says the director. "I wanted very much to show the scale. The whole movie is about scale. Literally, there are set pieces that are impossibly big. I wanted very much to have this image to show you what the tip of a nail of a Kaiju looks like."

Two Heads are Better than One
No one person can pilot a Jaeger, the massive robots created to combat the Kaiju. Such a piece of machinery can only be operated by two pilots, serving two very specific functions.

"The pilots wear suits that are neurally linking them," says del Toro. "They have a spinal clamp that links their spines. They have relay gel in their helmets that transmit their impulses to one another. They move in synchronicity. One is handling the neural network of the left side of the Jaeger, and the other is handling the neural network of the right side of the Jaeger. They are connected between them."

Childlike Wonder
If "Pacific Rim" feels like it's tapping directly into the 10-year-old still lurking inside of you, you're not the only one. Del Toro says that the upcoming movie speaks to his inner-child, while presenting itself as a movie for adults.

"The idea for me is to create a movie that my head would explode if I was 12 or 10, but at the same time, treated visually like a very adult movie," says the filmmaker. "The textures, the colors — they're all taken very seriously."

Inside Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion' Trailer

Sixty years after an alien invasion, little is left on Earth's eviscerated surface — save for drone repairman Jack Harper. And thus begins the twisty tale of "

The film's first trailer, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman and Olga Kurylenko, dropped Monday (December 10), and MTV News spoke exclusively with Kosinski about the project's genesis, pitching to Cruise and how "Oblivion" stacks up against his previous sci-fi project.

On The Story
"I started writing this small character-driven science fiction story that was in the vein of those science fiction films of the 1970s that involved this lone survivor among the ruins of civilization, like 'Mega Man' or 'Silent Running' — it was kind of in that vein. I thought if it was going to be my first movie it would have to be something very small and contained in order to even get a chance at pulling it off. So it's the story of a drill repair man, Jack Harper, who is one of the last human beings left on earth after a massive war, which was the result of an alien invasion. Even though humankind won the war, Earth was left in such a state that we had to look for another place to settle, and Jack is left behind to monitor and secure the resource gathering operation that's happening where we're gathering the last bit of energy out of the earth's seawater in order to move onto the next step."

On That Graphic Novel
"That was the original treatment, the story. At the time I was ready to turn it into a screenplay, WGA went on strike and we couldn't actually hire a screenwriter to work on a screenplay at that point. So in order to keep the process moving forward I teamed up with Radical Comics to develop and illustrate a novel in parallel based on this story. And we did that over a couple years, and then I got pulled into 'Tron,' which was a couple years, and as 'Tron' was in post [production] I had enough between the story and the illustrations I had done with Andre, the artist, I had enough of a package to go out and set the project up at a studio which is what I did. And then I went into feature mode so, we never actually finished the graphic novel because once it got picked up I realized that the way I wanted this story to be experienced was on the big screen and not out of the book."

On Landing Tom Cruise
"It was our final Comic-Con for 'Tron,' and while I was showing the big Comic-Con trailer and we were doing our big song and dance for 'Tron: Legacy,' I was also launching an ashcan for 'Oblivion'—which was just kind of like an introductory chapter with eight images at the Radical [Comics] booth. And the day after I got back from Comic-Con, I got a call from Tom's agent saying that Tom had seen the ashcan and wanted to meet me and talk to me about it. I went over and met him at his hanger and I pitched him the full story 'cause he had just read that introductory beat—there wasn't a script at that point it was a story in my head. And I pitched him the whole story over about two hours and at the end of the meeting he said, 'Let's do this. I want to do this. I want to do this movie with you.' ... The role fits him like a glove. I just can't imagine anyone else playing this character."

On Bringing Sci-Fi Into Daylight
"Visually, I always knew exactly what I wanted the film to look like. 'Alien' is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I feel like after 'Alien,' science fiction kind of went into the dark for a long time. It became about deep space and dark ship holes and it just went into darkness. I liked the idea of bringing science fiction out into the daylight again. So it is a daytime science fiction film where the world is kind of divided into two zones: the world above the clouds and the world below the clouds. The world above the clouds is where Jack lives with Victoria, his partner, in this operation, in the skytower which is 3,500 ft. above the ground, away from the dangers that live below, which is a very different world from the ground where Jack actually has to do his job every day. And that juxtaposition to me in concept lends itself into a visual juxtaposition as well, where you're gonna see technology set against a landscape that I feel is something we haven't really seen before."

On Building From "Tron" Technology
"For this movie I had an idea of a new technique that I knew would provide a level of realism and immersion that you could never get from blue screen or green screen because the interactive lighting environment is something that always has to be faked. So I had an idea for something that was outlandish and I figured out with my DP audio how to actually pull it off. I'm really excited for people to see that in the movie because I think that from a technological point of view it was the most advanced thing I've ever done, and it was only possible because of the camera we had and the lenses we were using."

On The Score
"The composer is Anthony Gonzales, also known as M83, who's working in conjunction with Joe Trapanese, who was my orchestrator on 'Tron' and worked with Daft Punk. We've done a score for this film that I am as excited about as I was for the 'Tron: Legacy' score. It's just spectacular, I'm really psyched. And we will be recording that in January."

On What You Haven't Seen Yet
"I think the trailer does a good job at hinting that the film does have a number or twists and turns and there are hard questions being asked and there is a character who is under pressure. But I don't really want to say much more than that as to what the plot of the movie is."

Adele's 'Skyfall' Producer 'Thrilled' By Golden Globe Nomination

Given the past two years of his life — in which he co-wrote and produced Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," won Producer of the Year at the Grammys, and worked on albums like Florence and the Machine's Ceremonials and Foster The People's Torches debut — you'd think Paul Epworth would be getting used to accolades at this point. But you'd be wrong.

Because when the theme he created with Adele for the James Bond film of the same name, picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song Thursday (December 13) morning, well, Epworth couldn't believe it ... in fact, when he spoke with MTV News hours after the noms were revealed, he still sounded like he was coming to terms with things.

"Every single nomination in anything is really thrilling, but to have one in the film world as opposed to the music world, it's a really wonderful and very surprising step forward, you know?" he laughed. "I used to do work on film scores as a tape op, so I've done quite a bit of this, but this was definitely the first time that I've done it in this capacity. And to be doing it in front of ['Skyfall' director] Sam Mendes and ['Bond' producer] Barb Broccoli, it was definitely one of the most daunting sessions of my life."

Epworth that that the Globe nomination is even sweeter given the rather epic task he and Adele faced when they signed on to record the theme for "Skyfall": Namely, to create a song that ranks up there with some of the all-time greats in the series' lengthy history.

"We read the script, and then we went back and studied the look of the old 'Bond' films, and just tried to work out what was the uniting factor; the mood and that kind of '60s jazzy quality to them," he explained. "In a way, it was working with a new palette for me ... I went back and worked out whatever the modal structure or the chord that always seemed to unify those songs, and then actually I felt like we had a moment of inspiration. Literally, these chords fell into my head and they were like nothing I've ever played before, and it was a bit of a 'Eureka!' moment, really. It wasn't meant to mimic, it was meant to be what it was, and be respectful to those classic things."

And though he's done well at previous awards ceremonies — in addition to his Producer win at last year's Grammys, "Rolling in the Deep" won Song and Record of the Year, and 21 nabbed Album of the Year — Epworth doesn't consider "Skyfall" to be the favorite heading into the Golden Globes ... though it might not matter, since he might not be able to attend the ceremony anyway.

"I'm thrilled to be nominated, and weirder things have happened," he laughed. "To be honest, I have no idea if I'll even be able to make it. Ironically, I just finally booked a holiday yesterday, and I don't know if I'll be able to change my plans. It might be a difficult conversation to have with the wife."

Is 'Skyfall' the favorite to win Best Original Song at the Golden Globes? Let us know in the comments below.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Anne Hathaway 'Honored' By Golden Globe Nods

With the Golden Globe nominations announced early Thursday morning (December 13), we've had some time to think them over and put together a list of this year's winners, losers and shockers as well as bask in the very excited glow from the enthusiastic and grateful reactions from nominees like Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lawrence.

And the happy exclamations just keep pouring in. "What a great way to wake up!" said "Les Miserables" actor Anne Hathaway in a statement, speaking to her nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. "I couldn't be happier or more grateful for this news. Congratulations to Hugh (Jackman) and everyone who worked on Les Miz for their contribution to the best picture nomination!!!"

Leonardo DiCaprio was especially happy to be nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role category alongside his "Django Unchained" co-star Christoph Waltz.

"I'm truly honored to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association today," he said in a statement. " 'Django Unchained' was a remarkable experience and I consider myself lucky to work with Quentin and the entire cast on the film. I'm particularly proud to be named alongside my fellow 'Django' nominees."

The cast and crew of the critically lauded thriller "Zero Dark Thirty" also weighed in with proud, honored thanks.

" 'Zero Dark Thirty' is a film that I am extremely proud of and it's a tremendous honor to be recognized by the HFPA," said Jessica Chastain, nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture category. "I am so thankful for this nomination. I am elated to see our fearless producer Megan Ellison, our brilliant director Kathryn Bigelow, our wonderful screenwriter Mark Boal and this extraordinary film being honored today. I'm so proud and honored to play this exceptional woman."

Speaking on behalf of another highly-lauded 2012 film, "Argo," director/producer/actor Ben Affleck celebrated his film's real-life heroes for making the movie possible. "I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for honoring 'Argo' with five nominations," Affleck said in a statement. "These nominations reflect the courage and determination of real life heroes in the U.S., Canada, Iran and across the globe."

The film's co-star Arkin also expressed his thanks via a humble message of respect for his fellow nominees in the Supporting Actor category. "I am deeply grateful for this honor and particularly moved in being in the company of Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Tommy Lee Jones who I deeply admire,' Arkin said in a statement. "I am also thrilled that Ben is getting the attention he so much deserves, as is 'Argo.' "

One film that received a pleasantly surprising amount of attention from the HFPA is "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," which received a Best Picture nomination and two acting nods for its stars.

"Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this nomination. It's wonderful that our movie left its mark," said Ewan McGregor of the Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Comedy nomination. "Emily Blunt is such a talent and a joy to work with, and I'm so happy the HFPA recognized her performance, as well as our film. I look forward to the Golden Globes, as they are always fun and send my congratulations to all those who believed and participated in Lasse's vision."

"I'm so incredibly thankful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing our little movie that could," added McGregor's co-star and fellow nominee Blunt. "Ewan and the entire cast and crew could not be more deserving of this honor, and I'm thrilled that I'm able to share this moment among such a fantastic group of nominees."

Director Lasse Hallstrom piled on with the warm fuzzy "Salmon Fishing" thoughts:

"I am happy as a clam! Many thanks to the HFPA for recognizing our film with these nominations," Halstrom said in a statement. "I loved making this movie, and I am so happy for Ewan and Emily, and on top of being outstanding actors, they are two of the funniest and nicest people in the business, in my mind!"

Celebrated actress Helen Mirren offered a cheeky but grateful reaction to her work in "Hitchcock" being nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture -- Drama category: "Alma thanks you from the bottom of her heart for the recognition of her contribution to film," Mirren said in a statement. (She played the role of Alma Reville, Alfred Hitchcock's wife, in the movie.)

Mirren's fellow Best Actress nominee Marion Cotillard was delighted to be included among the other nominated actresses and very grateful for the HFPA's recognition of films made in her native country.

"Today makes for a really a great day," she said in a statement. "The Hollywood Foreign Press, who reach so many readers across the globe, have greatly recognized French cinema this year, with the inclusion of nominations for 'Rust and Bone.' Working with Jacques Audiard, was an extraordinary experience, and the journey of the characters he creates and cinematically guides, is a special thing -- as an actor and a moviegoer. This nomination is truly unique for me, because I also share it with Rachel Weisz, Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren and Naomi Watts, women who I respect as people and as talents who provide great inspiration to other actresses."

And lest you think that only the film actors are happy with their Globe nominations, there has been plenty of love continuing to pour out from the nominees in the world of television.

"I am so shocked and thankful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this nomination," said "Nashville" star Hayden Panettiere in a statement regarding her nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television. "Callie Khouri created such an amazing and juicy character in Juliette Barnes making her so much fun to play. This show is a dream to work on with this incredible cast. It's such an honor."

"Homeland" co-creator/executive producer Howard Gordon expressed his gratitude for the overall elevated quality in all of television programming this year, not just his show. "It's a been a great year for television and to be recognized by the HFPA in the company of such extraordinary nominees is an incredible thrill," he said in a statement. "We're grateful to all the other shows on television for raising the standards each year and to everyone involved with Homeland — from the cast and crew to Showtime and Fox 21 for their hard work, creativity and support."

Drake Reminds Ma$e Of Himself

Ma$e retired from the rap game back in 1999, only to return a few years later for a short-lived stint on 50 Cent's G-Unit label. That soured quickly thanks to his existing contract with Bad Boy Records, but now that Diddy has finally set him free, the Harlem rapper is considering his possibilities moving forward.

During his visit to the "Big & Best of 2012" edition of "RapFix Live" on Wednesday, Ma$e revealed that only days earlier, Diddy had finally cut him loose from a 16-year contract with Bad Boy Records. He admitted that he wasn't ready to finalize a new deal just yet — comparing it to the immediate aftermath of a breakup — but he did mention the only two names that he'd consider committing to moving forward, and they're from separate crews.

"There's really only three crews out there," Ma$e said, running through the options and crossing them out. "MMG — if I was on MMG, it would be kinda the same as being with G-Unit — and the only other [crews are] YMCMB and G.O.O.D. Music." Out of those three, G.O.O.D. was the clear winner, as Ma$e already has an established working relationship with Kanye West, but what about the second option?

"There's only two people that I would work with, and it would have to be one of those two, but the second one is probably gonna surprise many of you," Ma$e told the audience. "The only two that would make sense to me would be Kanye or Drake — even though he doesn't have a label, those are the only two that I would entertain."

Ma$e was right in predicting that his answer would surprise some people, but he has his reasons for wanting to work with the Toronto rapper. "I think that he's the closest to what I believe I would've been, if I didn't leave music," he explained. "I like his ability to express how he feels, not being afraid, and he can really rap. So that's really the only two I would think about."

It sounds like Ma$e will need some more time to make his decision here, but if he's worried about Drake not having a label, there's some good news for him. Earlier this month it was confirmed that Drake signed his OVO imprint to Warner Bros. Records, and he's likely looking to add some talent to that roster.

Would you like to see Ma$e work with Kanye West or Drake? Let us know in the comments!

Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble.' Video: Watch It Now!

Taylor Swift said her "I Knew You Were Trouble." video would be she'd done before ... and, well, she wasn't lying.

Because the "Trouble" clip — which premiered Thursday at 4:40 p.m. on — is most definitely a departure for the usually demure Swift, a decidedly dark thing that documents a pair of star-crossed lovers embarking on a race to the bottom. There are fistfights, makeout sessions in dingy motel rooms, druggy dancefloor spinouts, shirtless tattoo sittings and, of course, a whole lot of tattered clothing. Don't get confused, we're not talking "Sid & Nancy" or anything here ... more like Rihanna's only if it aired on the CW. Which, for Taylor, is still a pretty drastic step.

And while Swift's seemingly endless stream of detractors will no doubt jump on "Trouble's" rather, uh, overwrought moments — the lengthy voiceover that begins the clip, where she drops bon mots like "I think that the worst part of it all wasn't losing him, it was losing me" certainly isn't going to do her any favors — there's certainly something to be said about the risks she takes here, the way she throws herself into the role of a good girl poised on the precipice of a steep drop. Co-starring with "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" lead Reeve Carney (the titular troubleman), Swift seems to delight in getting dirty, whether she's being cast aside in a bar brawl or losing herself in the whirl and whomp of the dancefloor. Shoot, she even sorta dyed her hair for the role.

When taken at large, "Trouble." may not separate itself from the field of other down-and-dirty vids being dropped by her pop contemporaries, but when considered in the cuddly context of Swift's other clips (probably not coincidentally, this is her 23rd ... and it premiered on her 23rd birthday), well, it represents a quantum leap for the squeaky-clean star. A large portion of her terrific Red album seems to be about her seizing the reins and driving her career to the next plateau, and perhaps "Trouble." is the next logical step. It may give ammo to the naysayers, and it could possibly alienate whatever portion of her country fanbase that still exists, but you get the feeling Swift could care less. This is about growth, about expansion, about pushing the boundaries.

Like she says at the end of the thing, "I don't know if you know who you are until you lose who you were" ... preach, sister.

How do you feel about Taylor's 'Trouble.' reinvention? Let us know in the comments below.

Public Enemy's Hall Of Fame Induction Shows Hip-Hop Is 'Collective Effort'

It will take more than a nation of millions to hold Public Enemy back. When Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Terminator X and the rest of PE embarked on their rap mission in 1987, they were musical underdogs, with a politically charged message rooted in a genre that many thought just to be a fad.

Now, 25 years later, PE is honored as the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "I had no expectations whatsoever. I set out at the beginning of my career to be as proficient as an artist, any rock band or any rap group," Chuck told MTV News on Wednesday, just a day after the inductees were officially announced. "I was trained by the best from Run DMC, to Whodini, to Doug E. Fresh to Anthrax and we knew really at our best, nobody could ever mess with us."

Next year the HoF will welcome not only PE, but Rush, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King into its fold.

While Chuck and his band of militant rap revolutionaries stand proud as hip-hop icons, the "Fight the Power" MC loves and respect all different forms of music. From the group's classic debut Yo! Bum Rush the Show to their latest The Evil Empire of Everything, PE has stretched the boundaries of hip-hop by infusing rock, soul, funk and reggae into their sound.

Being only the fourth group inducted into the Hall of Fame (after Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys) is no doubt an honor, but Chuck makes a keen observation about which rap acts get inducted. "The first four inductees in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame from rap's standpoint are groups. I always felt that hip-hop was a collective effort, groups," he pointed out before remaking on the dilution of the genre by eliminating rap's musical component. "Once record companies ... turned it into an individual thing, just an MC, that's when it actually got weaker."

Singer-songwriter Carole King to receive U.S. Gershwin prize

(Reuters) - American singer-songwriter Carole King will be awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the U.S. national library said on Thursday.

The multiple Grammy Award winner co-wrote her first No. 1 hit at age 17 with then-husband Gerry Goffin and was the first female solo artist to sell more than 10 million copies of a single album, with her 1971 release "Tapestry."

The prize honors individuals for lifetime achievement in popular music, the library said. It is named after songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin.

King, now 70, topped the charts with the song "It's Too Late" in 1971, but is best known for her work performed by others, including "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin.

"I was so pleased when the venerable Library of Congress began honoring writers of popular songs with the Gershwin Prize," King said in a statement. "I'm proud to be the fifth such honoree and the first woman among such distinguished company."

King and Goffin wrote some the biggest hits of the 1960s before their nine-year marriage ended in 1968. They rose to prominence in 1960 writing "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" for the Shirelles.

The duo also scored hits with "Take Good Care of My Baby," performed by Bobby Vee in 1961, "The Loco-Motion," performed by Little Eva in 1962 and "Pleasant Valley Sunday," performed by The Monkees in 1967, among others.

New York-born King did not hit it big as a singer until 1971, when "Tapestry" topped the U.S. album charts for 15 weeks, then a record for a female solo artist.

Past recipients of the award include Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and songwriting tandem Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Will 'Hobbit' Sequels See Gollum's Return?

When Peter Jackson announced that he was making not two but three "Hobbit" movies, we weren't that surprised, even though the source material from J.R.R. Tolkien's original work doesn't seem to have as much meat as his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. And now that we've had a chance to hear Jackson's reasoning and motivation behind the decision, we're on board.

But that got us to thinking, what did the cast think about the addition and how soon did they know about it before we did?

"By the time they officially told us it was kind of on the grapevine," star Martin Freeman told MTV News of learning the not-so-secret news during filming of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." "As you can imagine film sets are a hive of gossip, when you've been somewhere a year and a half sometimes there is little else to do but gossip. So no we got the idea that it might be happening."

Sir Ian McKellan's memory was slightly clearer on the subject as he could pinpoint the actual day when they found out.

"I remember it was the last day of shooting and Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage and I were called into see [Jackson] and we thought, 'It's too late to sack us,' " he joked before adding that Jackson wanted to explain that he didn't want to not use all the extra material they had already banked during filming and Warner Brothers fully supported a third film.

Will 'Hobbit' director Peter Jackson pull a 'Star Wars'?

"Of course they are, Warner Brothers would be happy if Peter Jackson made 13 ['Hobbit'] movies," McKellan said. "It does mean that we're going to have to go back and do more filming and that's fine and next May we'll all be back in New Zealand, back in Middle-earth."

But even with Jackson expanding upon Tolkien's source material, it doesn't mean that all of the cast will be back. We asked Andy Serkis if the expanded universe might include more work for his Gollum, but Serkis didn't seem to think he'd be needed for anything else in the next two films.

"That's a very good question. At the moment there certainly aren't any plans for Gollum to return," Serkis said. "But I always say [when working] with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, never say never."

Check out everything we've got on "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

It's OK to crank up the music, Florida Supreme Court rules

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Reuters) - Motorist Richard Catalano's five-year quest to crank up Justin Timberlake tunes on his way to work won the blessing of the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday.

In a unanimous ruling, the state's highest court affirmed a pair of lower-court opinions that a 2007 state law prohibiting loud music while driving violated the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of expression.

Catalano received a $73 ticket in 2007 for violating the newly enacted law that prohibited motorists from playing music that is "plainly audible" 25 feet away. Motorists traveling by hospitals, schools and churches were subjected to even stricter standards.

Catalano, a Clearwater lawyer, challenged the law as subjective, arguing that determining whether music was too loud was in the ears of the beholder.

Further, the law provides listeners with fewer protections than drivers of vehicles emitting political or commercial speech, who have more explicit protections under the U.S. Constitution.

Calling the law overly broad, Justice Jorge Labarga wrote that noncommercial speech was also protected. Though rejecting the notion that the law was too vague, Labarga said the state showed no compelling interest in muzzling audiophiles who also prefer to feel their favorite music.

"The right to play music, including amplified music, in public fora is protected under the First Amendment," Labarga wrote.

A message left with Catalano was not immediately returned Thursday.

It's Taylor Swift's Birthday! What Should Harry Styles Buy Her?

In case you didn't hear, today is Taylor Swift's birthday. The fair-haired pop superstar is celebrating her big 2-3. And if "pal" Harry Styles is scratching his head about what to get the girl who has everything, some of One Direction's biggest fans have some suggestions for the male half of Haylor.

"I think Harry should give Taylor something that means something personal," Ana Worthington told MTV News after the guys' Madison Square Garden show earlier this month. "Like, the guys that's she dates can buy really expensive things, but I think he needs to give her something that really means something."

Getting Taylor a 23rd BDay gift? Buzzworthy's got purr-fect, Cat-themed ideas for Swifties!

Two other fans had an interesting and rather unusual suggestion for him. "I think Harry should give Taylor some..." Alana Pettus said, before pal Erin Moore added, "...Something mythical."

Jenna Masciantanio offered up this bit of gift-giving advice: "A breakup so that she can write more songs."

Taylor Gets A Golden Globe Nod For Her Birthday!

Other fans, however, didn't share in that sentiment. "I think writing a song, something special," Emily Blair said. "Some roses, some flowers, always good... jewelry, anything a girl wants."

Along those lines of time-tested gifts, Tori Ewarte added, "Chocolate, probably a good one."

Taylor Swift's Top 5 Moments of 2012!

By the photo evidence floating around, it seems that Harry may have gifted Taylor with some doves while on vacation in England, so maybe he's got it under control.

However, some other celebrities had some suggestions for what they would buy the 23-year-old. "Taylor Swift, happy birthday," said Swift's "Both of Us" collaborator, B.o.B. "Congratulations on all your success. I ordered a Papa John's pizza, and I saw her on my box and I was like, 'This is great.' This makes my pizza that much better."

"We honor you, cherish you, relish you, admire you, each and every day are inspired by you. Happy birthday," Jason Mraz said of the birthday girl.

Ed Sheeran Going 'Death Metal' on Next Album?

NEW YORK — 2012 was a good year to be Ed Sheeran. The red-headed British singer/songwriter burst onto the music scene with his critically acclaimed debut effort, +, which caught much attention after "The A Team" became Sheeran's first single to chart on Billboard's Hot 100 and also got him his first-ever Grammy nomination.

As if that weren't enough, Sheeran has also lent his talents to some of his very famous friends, collaborating with Taylor Swift on her Red track and writing heart -melting lyrics for One Direction's "Little Things."

But now, Sheeran is putting the focus back on himself and is already hard at work on his second album, and it is not what you would expect.

"I'm thinking of doing a heavy-metal album, like screamo," Sheeran joked at Z 100's Jingle Ball in New York City. "Like proper death metal."

All kidding aside, Sheeran did reveal that he's "done around 26 songs" for his sophomore record. But if you are hoping to hear an Ed Sheeran/One Direction collaboration, you won't be finding it on this album.

"I'm not really too up for collaborations," Sheeran admitted. "My theory is Bob Dylan never collaborated on his first few records so I think I'll get to a point where for me collaborating on my own record will make sense, but for now I need to kind of make my own groove myself and collaborating with someone like Taylor on her record has opened up so many doors but I think for me on my own record I need to keep it me for a while."

Well, if he changes his mind, he said he does have a few songs left over from his recording sessions with Swift, whom he will be joining on the road as her opening act on 2013's Red Tour. So what can expect from Sheeran on stage?

"I don't know really. I've never really played stadiums," Sheeran said. "I guess a nervous Ed on stage with a small guitar."

Are you excited for Sheeran's next album? Let us know in the comments.

Exclusive: Jennifer Lawrence On 'Amazing' Golden Globes Nomination

There's a silver lining to everything — even waking up at an ungodly hour to an unexpected phone call, as newly-minted Golden Globes nominee Jennifer Lawrence did Thursday morning (December 13).

"I had no idea [the Golden Globes nominations were Thursday]," Lawrence told MTV News during an exclusive interview from the set of the next chapter in the saga of reluctant rebel leader Katniss Everdeen. "My agent called me at 5:30 and I thought the set of my movie had burned down, or Josh [Hutcherson] had died or something. I didn't realize! I was so tired!"

Now that she's awake, Lawrence is fully aware of her Best Actress nomination for director David O. Russell's romantic-comedy about Pat, a man with bipolar disorder (played by Bradley Cooper) who meets Tiffany (Lawrence), a recent widow who becomes an important part of Pat's life. The film received three nominations in addition to Lawrence's nod.

"It's amazing. It was such an incredible part," Lawrence said of receiving the nomination. "All the blood, sweat and tears that everybody put in this movie, and how much it meant to everyone, we can all share it together. David and Bradley got the recognition they deserve. It's wonderful to be able to share it with everyone."

But Lawrence also said that she's not one to spend too much time dwelling on awards and nominations: "My trick — and I don't know if it's a trick or just a part of my personality that I can't help — but I don't think about it too much."

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise, then, that Lawrence isn't spending the day celebrating her "Silver Linings" nomination. Instead, she's hard at work on "Catching Fire." Lawrence has eight days left of shooting on the "Hunger Games" sequel, and today's workload involves getting into kill-or-be-killed Katniss mode.

"I'm covered in dirt, I'm drinking coffee, and then I'm going to go get into a swamp later. I'm basically just doing what all the other nominees are doing today," she joked. "We're all getting in a swamp together!"

What do you think of Lawrence's Golden Globes nomination? Tell us in the comments section below!

Will One Direction Take The Timberlake Route And Go Solo?

The guys in One Direction are a force to be reckoned with these days. They've seemingly done it all in a little more than two years since they met on the U.K. version of the "X Factor." Having already stolen the hearts of teen girls everywhere, topped the charts and toured the globe; there doesn't seem much else for the guys to knock off their collective bucket list. Except, maybe, pursue a solo career.

You see, they had each initially all auditioned for the "X Factor" as solo acts back in the day and after getting cut, they were formed into One Direction. And they told Barbara Walters on special Wednesday night, there's no going back to even thinking about making music solo.

"Me, personally, I wouldn't do it," Louis Tomlinson said.

"We're... we're together now, and that's, I think, that's it. Yeah, it's like you'd be doing wrong," Niall Horan added.

Zayn Malik was also insistent that you won't see any of the guys performing on their own. He said, "No way. It's not even, like, a question. We'd just be like, 'No, I'm not doing it.' "

Of course, the shelf life of a boy band isn't always that long. Except for a few notable exceptions (BSB, NKOTB, but even they had their hiatuses), a boy band doesn't always stay together forever. When Walters pointed out that 'NYSNC only lasted a handful of years before going their separate ways, the guys didn't seem too worried.

"I don't think five years is such a short time," Liam Payne said of that group's run together.

"We are just having an absolutely amazing time and I think it would be wrong to look at it thinking 'When is this going to end?' " Louis noted. "At this moment, we're having a great time."

But, the conversation wasn't just about their career goals; it also focused on their love lives. While Harry noted he was single when he sat down with Walters for the interview, he has since been linked to Taylor Swift, a relationship that has been dubbed Haylor. She celebrates her 23rd birthday today. Why is that important? Well, it's an interesting fact given this back and forth.

When Walters asked, "How old is older women? 23?" His answer was simply, "Yeah."

Did A$AP Rocky Wear A Dress On '106'? Nope, Just An 'Oversized Shirt'

A$AP Rocky doesn't shop where the average rapper does. Ever since he hit the rap scene in October 2011, the Harlem MC has stood out with his designer fashion taste. Though he is often praised for his gear, Rocky has been clowned online after a recent BET "106 & Park" where a bunch of blog sites accused him of wearing a dress.

"I was just on '106 & Park' the other day with an oversized shirt on and everybody talkin' about I wore a dress," Rocky said, clearing up the rumor when he appeared on "RapFix Live" as a part of MTV's Big and Best of 2012. "That's foul and mine was long-sleeve."

The rising rap star walked on television wearing a long black pea coat, black bandana, with what he describes as a long-sleeved oversized tee and construction boots, but many have accused Rock of rocking a women's garment. A$AP didn't seem too concerned on Wednesday, and urged all of his fellow fashionistas to be proud of their individuality. "If fashion is your life and that's what you like and that's what you're about, express yourself, wear what you want and nothing matters, nobody else opinions matter," he stated. "Be the person that starts the trend.

"You're gonna have times where people, they gonna try to joke on you, they're gonna try to play you and all that, that just comes with life," he continued. "You gotta keep it striving' and always know that if they're talkin' you doin' somethin' right."

Only a year into his career and already Rocky feels like he's inspired change, especially when it comes to hip-hop's rugged dress code. "When I see dudes wearing high-end designers that they weren't wearing a year ago and rips in their jeans and gold teeth and these nappy braids and stuff I just look at it like we're doing something right," he said. "I really like the fact that the urban community has accepted high-end fashion."

Bruno Mars Gets 'Lost In The Sauce' On 'Young Girls'

Bruno Mars may have gone with as the first single off Unorthodox Jukebox — and, given that it just went to #1 on the Hot 100, well, it looks like he made the right choice — but when it came time to finish the tracklisting for the album, he went with a different song to kick things off: "Young Girls."

And really, that one was a no-brainer, as he told MTV's Sway Calloway during the livestream.

"That's the first song on the album [because] I think it really shows you what this album is going to be, and just where I was when I started this album," Mars said. "Everything's been so new to me, man, I feel like the world's been watching it. Watching me go on tour, watching me perform on TV ... but I [also] feel this is something everyone can relate to: There's a moment in your life where you start going out every night, and it's so fun, but then you start to lose yourself; you get lost in the sauce.

"So, this song is the same sentiment as 'Lookin' For Love In All The Wrong Places,'" he continued. "It's another confession."

Mars had previously said that he was planning to shoot a video for "Young Girls," promising that it would be "something I've never done before." And while we can't vouch for the video, the song itself finds him covering a subject he's more than familiar with: the ladies. And, really, though he's expanding his repertoire on Jukebox he'll be the first to admit that he didn't want to stray too far from his comfort zone when it came time to write lyrics.

"You know what? I sing about girls, ever since I was this big, that's what I do," he laughed. "I'm not there yet ... to sing about politics and, you know, this is what I want to sing about, and this is what I know. I'm not going to preach what I don't know. As much as I love [2 Chainz's] 'All I Want For My Birthday ...' this is where I'm at."

Golden Globes 2013 Nominees: Winners And Losers

Abraham Lincoln wasn't much of a vampire-hunter this year, but the historic American leader is proving to be a much more capable awards-magnet.

The 2013 Golden Globes nominations were announced today (December 13), and even though victory hasn't been declared for any of the nominees just yet, we can already identify some winners and losers based on a variety of factors, including the number of nominations received — a number that amounts to zero in some cases.

From big winner Honest Abe to the defeat of the Dark Knight, here's our list of the winners and losers among this year's Golden Globe nominees.

Winner: "Lincoln"
Hail to the chief! Among the nominees, no film fared better than "Lincoln," Steven Spielberg's in-depth exploration of the 16th President of the United States. Honest Abe secured seven nods, including the Best Actor category for Daniel Day-Lewis, whose win is all but in the history books at this point. In a time of year positively drenched in "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Les Misérables" buzz, this is a reminder that Spielberg's biopic cannot be underestimated in the ongoing awards season.

Winner: "Django Unchained"
Quentin Tarantino's late-out-the-gate Southern could be picking up some Oscar steam based on its presence at the Globes. "Django" roped in five nominations: Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Screenplay, Best Director for Tarantino, and two Supporting Actors nods for Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz. The "D" may be silent, but the "Jango" is very well-represented at this year's show. Expect at least one win, most likely for DiCaprio's turn as loathsome slaver Calvin Candie.

Loser: "The Dark Knight Rises"
If you were holding out hope for Christopher Nolan's last dance with the Bat to become a last-minute awards season contender, you should put them to rest now. "Rises" went completely unnoticed at the Globes this year, which makes any future Oscar love an unlikely prospect at best. That's what happens when you hang up the cape and cowl for eight years, Bruce! You get soft!

Winner: "Moonrise Kingdom"
The people of New Penzance have spoken! The nominations for "Moonrise" don't amount to the total number of Khaki Scouts in Troop 55, but the Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical pick-up is a step in the right direction for one of the year's most underrated movies. It stands little chance against the powerhouse that is "Les Mis," but a nomination here could get "Moonrise" in the door at the Oscars.

Loser: "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"
Peter Jackson's return to Middle-earth is the perfectly dazzling blockbuster to close out a year of perfectly dazzling blockbusters, but it doesn't look like a major awards contender. Credit the lack of "Hobbit" love at this year's Globes to any number of factors — the super-strong field of contenders, the controversy of 48 frames per second, the decision to turn one children's book into an epic trilogy of films — but no matter how you slice it, there's just no second breakfast left over for Bilbo Baggins.

Winner: "Homeland"
In TV land, Showtime's counter-terrorism thriller continued its hot streak at the Globes after dominating this year's Emmys. The show itself scored a Best Drama nomination, lead actors Claire Danes and Damian Lewis got nods, and the incredibly underrated Mandy Patinkin snuck into the Best Supporting Actor field for his turn as veteran CIA operative Saul Berenson. But with public opinion turning against "Homeland" during the late stages of its second season, will the winning streak go beyond the nomination stage?

Loser: "Mad Men"
Normally considered a sure thing come awards season, "Mad Men" found itself completely shut out of the Best Drama category this year. Jon Hamm represents the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce team with a Best Actor nomination; beyond that, nada. The show's fifth season wasn't necessarily its strongest, no, but the lack of recognition for outgoing actor Jared Harris in the Supporting category is a real shame. His work as Lane Pryce, standing on the edge of the end of his life, was some of the most compelling acting in any medium all year long.

Loser: "The Walking Dead"
2012 was a massive year for comic book movies and television, but not on the awards circuit. AMC's zombie drama, like "Mad Men," got shut out of the major categories at the Globes this year. Not a major surprise considering the show's lackluster second season, but there are few arguments against its currently airing third year: top-notch acting, rapid-fire pacing, courageous storytelling and, yes, the grossest gross-out imagery money can buy. Season three of "Walking Dead" is must-see television, and it's disappointing that the Globes didn't take a bite.
